Spanky67--I've attached an article from Better Homes and Gardens that someone on the old house forum found that has pretty much our exact layout...on the right ("floating," I guess) will be the vanity, then the toilet, then the tub perpendicular against the back wall. Across from the vanity we have a large window. And that's pretty much it. Like I said, it's a pretty basic, small bathroom. Since this was such an old house (pre-indoor plumbing), they just kind of stuck in two bathrooms--the downstairs one is even smaller and takes up what used to be part of the walk-in pantry and the upstairs one is half of one of the six bedrooms. If it helps at all, the article calls the vanity "narrow" so maybe it would be something that might fit for you. :) sarah Here is a link that might be useful: better homes and gardens--exact bathroom!

Wow! I was quoted! I'm so honored. It's true. Your stone is the beautiful frame, your water is the picture, and your tile is the mat. It shouldn't take away from the other two, unless it is a feature. At first I thought, definitely the gray, but as I looked at it, it could also be the color of one of the lighter gray rocks in your stone (I see two of the stones in the second set of pictures under the pvc pipe). That might be more of a gradual transition between the rock and the gray finish and blue water. I LOVE your stone. Our tile would probably be too dark for you, but we used Daltile Continental Slate in Asian Black. Lots of grays and brown it it too. http://www.daltileproducts.com/series.cfm?series=38#608 The tile is great. The only trouble that we had in the beginning (and now again, see below) is that the grout put out calcium. Our pool builder didn't know how to get rid of it, and poured chems. right on the grout and it ate it up. After a while, I tried spraying vinegar on it and scrubbing a little and it came right off. This was on our 360 degree spa that has water running on it everyday. The waterline has had no problems since. We had them come back to regrout the spa, and we do have a couple of areas that show calcium again. I guess it's time to get out the vinegar again. It should stop soon. Now others might want to chime in on this one, but you might want to seal the grout. We didn't, and I don't know if that would have helped. Here's some pictures of our spa and the tile. So I let my GC know that I was a little worried about no backsplash and he called me right away. Offered to come out to the house to talk to us again. Said he would totally do it if we wanted to, he was just afraid I will not like the look. First we do not have bullnose tile and are using chrome, flat edge Schluter, which will go with the other chrome fixtures in the room. He was not sure I would like where the schluter edges would meet at the L and if I would like the edges going across. He also expressed the possibility that when the guys go to attach the floating vanity to the tiled wall that the a tile could crack. So I think I may have freaked out/panicked a little. He seems totally cool. Now I guess the ball is in my court and I just have to make sure I make the right decision. Do I run the shower tile behind the vanity or not?? HELP!

Ok so you mean using the same tile on walls as the shower walls? I had wanted to to 12x24 in shower for fewer grout lines but I agree they are too large for the small room walls but thought I could use them in the shower, and smaller version of them on the walls. Perhaps I go with a simple flat subway for this room... seems so middle of the road lol. Not what I wanted to do but might feel cleaner. For flooring I am leaning toward a plain hex or the octagonal shown. I’d love a feature/statement tile behind the toilet. In real life the cabinet is grey with a tinge of green. It doesn’t show any wood tone or grain at all- the gray color in the encaustic type tile is almost identical to the cabinet actually. Thanks all!! Very helpful!!
