I think it will look really good, but the sample you posted has a lot of pink tones in it, I'd see if they have the same tile but with less pink tones in it. Something that's more grey/white maybe.

That's for the FLOOR? Is that painted or is it little tiny tiles with zillions of grout lines? If it's grout you better plan a very dark grout or you will be kicking yourself before long. It looks very nice together, and if it's many tiles and not one painted one, then I would use it only for the walls......

I'm glad you have the vanity before you rough in the plumbing. Don't forget about backing for towel bars and robe hooks.

Oh, the tile's for the floor. We're not doing any tile on the walls, I don't think. The plumbing's already roughed in but will work with that vanity--luckily, since the bottom is open. I'm just planning on two large-ish wicker baskets underneath with rolled up towels in them for guests.

I *think* the grout lines will be the skinny lines on the side of each rectangular piece. The little brownish squares are already part of the tile (if I am wrong, please correct me!).

I guess I kind of read the tile to have a yellow-y shade in it (which would go great with the top). Pinkish would not look good, you're right.

I'm going to my local tile shop to see if they have anything similar that I can actually see in person--this one is from the tileshop.com

I do like hex floors as well, but I thought this basketweave might look better with the creamy/tan vanity top rather than something more white.

My bathroom floor from 1947 has tile exactly like that. The grout lines have never been a problem. They are very narrow and not deep. I have a porcelain tile floor in my kicthen and the grout is a huge problem becasue the lines are wider and deeper, so dirt sits down in the grout "valley".

I think your choices look wonderful together.

I just read a recent article in Better Homes and Gardens with very similar flooring and vanity----looks great together!

WOW--moegaff--that is EXACTLY my vanity and mirror from Lowe's--and the tile gives a very similar effect that I think the basketweave will as well. Thanks SO MUCH for the link!!

And thanks to everyone for the kind words/suggestions. After visiting our local tile shop (whom I love and bought our backsplash tile in the kitchen from), I've realized that $14/sf for basketweave is a pretty good deal, since most similar basketweaves at the tile store were $20 and up--the one I liked ALMOST as much as this one (but not quite as much!) was $35/sf!!! Ouch!!

Can you give more details on the vanity? How much was it? Was it ready made or special order from Lowe's? I haven't seen this one before (except in the BHG article!).

kelleg--it's called the Dorset vanity and we got it at Lowe's off the floor for $450, I think. That's with the creama marfil top, undermount (white) sink, and vanity. Not the faucet. And the faucet is a 4", not an 8" spread if that makes any difference to you. It's actually nicer looking in person than it is in the picture. And the matching mirror from the article photos is $98. I originally wanted one from Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn, but the cost was so much more, it was ridiculous. I changed my color scheme from the carrara marble & black to this dark chocolately brown & creamy/yellowy marble color.

Oh, and we had a 10% off entire purchase coupon.

I really am happy with it--plus it has four drawers that are VERY smooth to pull out and in considering the price.

I think the styles would look great together. You need to see the actual color tones next to each other to see whether or not they are compatible. Most tile stores sell crema marfil tiles so you could see them together, if they have that floor tile in stock. If not, have them order you a sample tile.

Oh, I just bit the bullet today and ordered it. At The Tile Shop, the salesman got it down to $12.99/sf with a coupon I found online. Couldn't turn it down since our two big local tile shops didn't even have anything close to this unless you got into $30-$35/sf. I even made my husband happy by going to our tile shop, picking out a (yawn!) very plain beige 12X12 tile and having that priced out with just two tiny rows of a cute mosaic around the outside--that came to $550. Yikes!

Here's keeping my fingers crossed that it looks good with the crema marfil top!! It's pretty yellow in color and I think someone got this same tile before and was unhappy because it was too yellow--so it might just work out in my case.

Anyway, it's worth a shot--the rest of the marble basketweave tiles just seem to be out of my price league!!

I think your choice of tile will be great. We put that same vanity in our new Jack & Jill bath, but we changed out the tops to a darker black/gray to go with our gray floor tile. Look forward to photos of your finished product!

Be very careful with The Tile Shop. Open EVERY box before you leave the store with it.

All the details are in the post that I linked to the second time. I found the guy through ebay and did a good amount of research (emailing people who bought from the guy in the past) before I pulled the trigger.

Do you plan to "float" this as a stand alone vanity, or will you tuck it more into a corner and butt it up against a back and side wall?

I ask as I'm thinking of using the same vanity, but it's for a guest room bath that only has roughly 73" of wall space. It will share that wall with the toilet and I need to keep that space at least 30" and would prefer 36".

Spanky67--I've attached an article from Better Homes and Gardens that someone on the old house forum found that has pretty much our exact layout...on the right ("floating," I guess) will be the vanity, then the toilet, then the tub perpendicular against the back wall. Across from the vanity we have a large window. And that's pretty much it. Like I said, it's a pretty basic, small bathroom. Since this was such an old house (pre-indoor plumbing), they just kind of stuck in two bathrooms--the downstairs one is even smaller and takes up what used to be part of the walk-in pantry and the upstairs one is half of one of the six bedrooms.

If it helps at all, the article calls the vanity "narrow" so maybe it would be something that might fit for you.

Two questions. Did you buy it directly thru your local Lowes or get it online? I went to my closest Lowes and they said only online. I called Lowes cust serv and they said only available thru stores...it can't be ordered. Um...Okay.

Second, How does the granite top come with regard to holes predrilled for the faucet...1 sgle hole, 3 holes for a 4" spread, or 3 holes for an 8" spread?

Anyway, I bought it at our local Lowe's near Albany, NY. It is still on display there as of today--have no idea if they have any in stock, but I would imagine they do if they still have it on the floor. I saw it online as well, so I would imagine you could get it both places.

Good luck!! I'm sure I'll hate myself for having a crema marfil top in a BUSY house with three young kids, but it's close enough to the look I wanted with a lot lower price tag!!

Thanks Sarah. I've got a brand new Lowes fairly close to my house (I tend to be more of a supply house guy, but they do come in handy on a Sunday afternoon when those places are closed) that still seems to be working out the kinks. I was able to call 2 other Lowes that have it in stock and I'm going to check it out this afternoon. I'm not thrilled that it's only a 4" spread instead of an 8", but SWMBO likes it...so there you go.

Yes, it's a 4", predrilled with three hole spread. I wasn't thrilled about it either. But I was having a tough time finding a vanity I liked and then getting a solid surface top (granite, marble or anything else) and undermount sink for under 1K. Just wasn't happening. So 4" spread it is. And I have found that the majority of people that are not renovating at the present time have no idea (nor do they care) about a 4" or 8" spread.

What's really funny is that I get hung up on an 8" spread and I don't clean the countertop. We have a cleaning lady come a couple times a month, so I guess I was trying to be nice to her...oh well. Once our kids came, my wife decided they were better served with that hour or 2 instead of cleaning toilets and floors.

BTW, I'm in the exact same boat. We couldn't find a vanity we liked and didn't want to spend big on this guest bath. Nice find!

Oh, just downloaded the pics of the vanity before I went to the tile shop the other day--just in case anyone wants to see it in real life. It was in the Lowe's circular, front-and-center this week ;)
