National Dog Day August 26

Isn't this just so appropriate, coming during the Dog Days of Summer?

When I looked this up I found calculators estimating the (American) cost of owning a dog over its lifetime. The site was from 2017 and listed $15,000 for a small dog -- largely due to a longer lifespan. The article said that Forbes estimated much higher amounts, all the way up to $90,000 in some cases -- lots of grooming, dog walking, dog-sitters and other services upped the tally.

It also said the Millenials are by far the largest group of dog owners. I was surprised it wasn't Boomers. It even said that 30% of millenials buying first homes do so to provide better homes/yards for their dogs. Wasn't this decision once made to benefit one's children? I doubt that expense is in the tallies.

Have we *literally* 'gone to the dogs'?
