$90k may seem extreme, but for a dog that lives 15 years, that is $6k/year; have friends with hobbies (e.g., boats, cars, flying planes, golf, skiing, diving, art collections, travel) that spend more annually. It is interesting to see how different people spend their disposable income. Fortunately, it helps the economy.

It varies from about $175K for lower income parents to $233K for upper-middle income parents. It also notes that Bill Gates' daughter lives in a $5 million condo, but do I care? Obviously, there's aslo a lot of difference between locations.

I was interested to see that 29% of these costs are housing. So, I guess if you already have a spare bedroom... Yeah, right.

Happy dog day to my two...Ziggy who will be 14 in December and Wally who is 16. I spend nowhere near that crazy amount for either dog. They have the best food, never go to a kennel, don't have toys because they're not interested except Ziggy and tennis balls, and we have a once-a-year wellness check at the vet which happened last month and they are both fine except for a small benign tumor on Wally's toe. The thousands of miles they've walked since we rescued them might have contributed.

We enjoy caring for our dog as best we can, keeping him healthy, clean and content. Its a pleasure to see him having a good life. He has given our family so much.

I read somewhere that millennials spend by far the most amount of money on their pets over any other generation. I am a millennial and when I went house hunting, land for my dogs was a MUST. Lots of people in that generation are choosing not to have children, for financial, environmental or lifestyle reasons. Pets are a luxury that they can afford. I cannot see any way that I have spent 90k on a dog in its lifetime though. Right now we have 5 large breed dogs and I doubt that we have spent 90k on all of them combined over all their lifetimes. They range in age from 10 years down to Leo, who is a mere 7 months old. Lets throw in George the cat too and that still doesn't add up to that much money. Yeesh.

If the land was for their sake, that cost should go on the list of 'money spent on doggies'.

The land was for us too. Mainly to ensure that we would never have pesky neighbors again. The dogs did fine with our fenced in yard in a subdivision. I did not.
