Day 5, My House in August: Outside
Comments (44)I'll play. I'll try to catch up on the other photos on the appropriate threads. With the exception of the immediate photo below (you'll guess why I'm including it), I'll try to keep this to my new build, not my current legal residence. Juvenile venison, he/she seems to have a twin, too. Connecticut, yesterday. Cannas plants. I planted them late, but they seem to be thriving on the southeast area of my future home. Massachusetts. These ones will be vibrantly red, probably starting this week. A few weekends ago, I had house guests up at my future home. That red dot is their drone, with which we had fun....See MoreDay 11: My House in August " Shelfie"
Comments (26)We're still in the midst of moving in and unpacking. My sweet hubby unpacked a lot of boxes yesterday and did his own arrangement on the shelves of the huge dining room built-in incorporating a lot of things that were displayed in small groups in various places in our old house. Bless his heart, it looks like a showcase in an antique mall. I know I want to do it much differently, but have no idea where to begin. I'll probably add a lot of books and be back here for advice on this one. The second pic is my little collection of 1939 New York World's Fair collectibles. Something about that fair just speaks to me. I'm drawn to its vision of the future, and it's the year my parents were born. There are also a few other World's Fair/Expo pieces thrown in for good measure. Also in that pic a peek at the built-in bookshelves in my office. They'll only hold fairly short books (must be all anyone had in 1954). I've got to go through all the book boxes this weekend and figure out where it all goes....See MoreDay 14, My House in August: Metallic
Comments (30)(as for the kippas..actually one's supposed to wear them all the time what's different though is the level of observance. Some do wear it only when praying, celebrating a holiday, etc. Some will wear them all the time..but if a kippah is knitted that's a sign that they are very traditional, yet not truly orthodox. Orthodox would wear black kippahs only..or, in some communities, hats. Obviously here everything's a bit different than in Israel. Including big thing they make out of Chanukkah..:) which is a wonderful holiday that we always try to celebrate, but no, it's not like Christmas, it's not a religious holiday even though it's about faith too, and involves a miracle..and the presents aren't such a huge part of it ..kids customarily do get something. And traditionally it was some money. I guess in order to play with dreidels..:) One has to have something to win and to loose, after all, lol OK where was I? so about knitted kippahs..in Israel people that observe everything yet are not orthodox still, are called either "traditional" or simply "knitted kippahs"..:) They'll always have extra supply in synagogue, very much so, because you're supposed to cover your head there. If you're a woman you should cover your hair too, Some light scarf will do. They usually keep some supply of scarves there as well. Unless you're a girl/woman who's unmarried yet. but little boys are supposed to wear kippahs. I like Bucharian kippahs the best-they're bigger, can look very smart, and usually are covered with some wonderful bright embroidery. Flowers and such. I'd love to see the thing from Turkey, and especially from Moscow..I think I know what it might look like:) Sorry for the big off-topic! I obviously miss home too much.. I love so many things here..the cat mold, the cake keeper, all the lamps, the candlesticks, the dragon, the tin ceiling, the cat door stop, the tea service, the chest..could go on and on..that's one dangerous thread. Sends one hunting.....See MoreDay 15-My House in August: Green
Comments (49)@ Caroline: "...she had the most vile, evil temper to ever be contained in a bird-suit. LOL We all loved her; she hated everyone and everything! She lived a long, healthy, indulged life, too, in spite of herself...." For some reason this is a description I wouldn't mind if someone attributed to me! You know, someone you can't help but want to be around! Anyway, here are my green contributions: My living room chairs - armless, but sooooo comfortable ...and a collage of Parisian items. I've loved lilies of the valley since I was a pre-teen and collected the container, the Lalique perfume bottle, and the Limoges tray on various trips to France. The print is a birthday card from a friend acknowledging my love for all things French (my first college major) and my completely unruly hair....See MoreBonnie
