Day 9,My House in August, flowers
Comments (30)Here's a few of my favorite outdoor flowers. Y2K Miniature rose planted while living on the base here. It did not survive its second winter. I love yellow roses! A Yokohama tulip from the same garden. I love peachy coral tulips! Who could be sad when looking at a little viola? I love purple-edged yellow violas! A little wren house, on a 5' pole with a vine (?) growing up, around, over, and through it. I covered the metal pole with a 5" wide sleeve of chicken wire to give the vine a place to cling. I love sweet little vines! And huge Clematis vines! And Morning Glory vines! And Thumbergia vines! And Moonflower vines! And Grape vines! Marquee Moon daylily. It's fragrant! I love fragrant yellow daylilies! Irises, beaten down by a hard rain. Each bloom was bigger than my two hands together. Even on the ground they were beautiful. And yes; I love yellow irises! I guess you can tell I love "yellow!"...See MoreDay 13: My House in August "Photograph"
Comments (22)Here's a family portrait that my family members hang, although I do not display it in my own house:From left to right: DB Mike, DS Karen, DB Kevin, and me (in the black tank top). Photo was taken at my sister's house in Austin in April, 2001. I do not have any more recent than that. I have an autographed photo of Marc Singer (in Beastmaster costume) in my bedroom; I bought it at ComiCon in San Diego, I think. The only other photographs I have in my house are on calendars - one calendar is of exotic cars and the other is of Roman gladiators, which I bought in Rome. I do have this poster featuring one of my roommates at the time in San Francisco mid 1970s:Her name was Valerie; she is on the floor on the left, and she gave me this flyer. She was working as a model at that time and was photographed for the cover of Eerie Magazine as Spider Woman. A photo of me was featured in a San Francisco calendar for 1982 - I was between June and July. I never got a copy of the Eerie Magazine, although I have looked high and low for it. Perhaps it never got published. Here's the "Beastmaster" photo: Here's how the family homestead in central Texas looked circa 1870: This is the house where my father was born. In 1932, my great-grandfather and grandfather tore it down and built the house where I grew up. I never met my grandfather because he died a couple of years before I was born....See MoreDay 16 My House in August "Bedroom"
Comments (26)Bumbebeez, I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your dog. I really don't have good photos of our BR. These are after repainting last summer. I had planned on BM Stonington Gray but I gave the painters the wrong gallon, so we have BM Nantucket Fog! Oh well, I think the Nantucket Fog is probably a nicer color anyways, and I sold the unopened gray paint on Nextdoor. I bought the Lexington white BR furniture when I was single, and I paid good money for it. So, yeah, I'm sure not DH's first choice. So, I have the paisley bedding that is a little less feminine. The iron headboard we got after we got a new mattress. I never ordered the Seaside headboard because it was really big. Needed to include kitty pics, too! Here is the guest room that I also posted on the "green" thread. It is also a cat room. I do not use the Marimekko bedding for every day. I have another coverlet. I posted yesterday we are thinking about giving up the guest room to make it more of a music room or else a workout room. Walls are SW Celery....See MoreDay 27 - My House in August: Leaves
Comments (15)Bromeliad leaves (these are the most decorative I have, I think):These are all bromeliads that I grow for their leaves - others I grow for their flowers. This one I grow for both:but the flowers do not last as long as other bromeliad flowers, but I do grow it most for its leaves.Almost forgot this one; it's called Vriesea Mint Julip, or at least that's how it was labeled when I bought it. One more - in my front yard; Agave Furcraea macdougaliiThis agave is already over 20' high, and it is quite a bit larger than I was led to believe it would get. I've had it since May 2010, and it is supposed to take 20-25 years to bloom. I may not still be in this house by that time. The flower will double the height of the plant as it is now. This is supposed to be the tallest agave in existence, and it is native to Oaxaca. I do not see many of these around, possibly because they take up so much space....See Moreraphaellathespanishwaterdog
