Is this bedroom set too massive for my bedroom? (pics!)
Comments (51)Believe it or not, decent looking ceiling fans exist. On every design show I've ever seen they're the first things to be thrown out, but I have them in every bedroom. Mmm slight draft at night without the sound of floor fan... I pspent no fewer than 18 weeks looking (off and on) for a "pretty" one to go in my master. I have lived with a 4 poster bed. My experience - unless you have really high ceilings, and I'm talking like 10 ft, and a sizeable room, it will turn your space into... tiny. Once upon a time in a previous life I thought I had a big bedroom until I put a poster bed in there. I like your computer nook. I always wanted a space like that, which I could separate from the rest of the room with some romantic drapery tied back. I might force that idea on my formal dining room. :) beds/headboards coverin ga window do bother me. I don't like anything to cover a window (couch, table, or otherwise) -- but that's just me. And if it came down to a queen bed, or covering that window, sure - the window would get covered! We have single panels on our two bedroom windows, mostly because they're skinny and it looked silly to me to have two panels. If you need to cover the window, something that seems to help (at least when I've seen it done) is to pull the bed away from the wall a foot or so. Then you can go with two panels, and it looks kind of intentional instead of "didn't have space." Something else to keep in mind with blocking windows -- does the sun come directly in such that it would fade your bedding over time?...See MoreMaking a 4 Bedroom House 3 Bedrooms- Bad Idea?
Comments (3)Ah, but you only *think* this will be less expensive. These projects not only always cost more than you estimate, you have to live in dirt for what seems forever -- costly in terms of peace and sanity. I was somewhat OK with your plans for the second story. When you got into completely rearranging the first floor rooms, you lost my support. (Like you care! LOL) DH and I lived for 30 years in a house about the size of yours (only one child though). After DS moved out we combined two BRs to have a larger master BR. Didn't hurt our sales prospects; still had a total of three BRs, three baths. The new house we live in now was bought to be a "remodel". I am so grateful we did a teardown instead! All New is always better than Partly New unless you have a historic home. My advice would be to spare yourselves a lot of money that you will NOT recoup and months/years of living in a construction site....See MoreDay 7, My House in August: Table
Comments (51)April, thanks for your appreciation of the light fitting!! It was obviously meant to be - about five years ago when living in our last house (Wiltshire, England) we saw three of these lights - varying sizes - in a flower shop in the nearest town. DH and I both fell in love even though it was a bit contemporary for our tastes, lol! The lights weren't for sale but were fixtures in the shop. We asked where they'd been sourced but no-one seemed to know. A few months later DH was trawling a car boot sale (weird English Sunday pastime, ha ha!) and spotted *our* light across a field full of cars. It was acquired for the princely sum of £15 :)...See MoreDay 13: My House in August "Photograph"
Comments (22)Here's a family portrait that my family members hang, although I do not display it in my own house:From left to right: DB Mike, DS Karen, DB Kevin, and me (in the black tank top). Photo was taken at my sister's house in Austin in April, 2001. I do not have any more recent than that. I have an autographed photo of Marc Singer (in Beastmaster costume) in my bedroom; I bought it at ComiCon in San Diego, I think. The only other photographs I have in my house are on calendars - one calendar is of exotic cars and the other is of Roman gladiators, which I bought in Rome. I do have this poster featuring one of my roommates at the time in San Francisco mid 1970s:Her name was Valerie; she is on the floor on the left, and she gave me this flyer. She was working as a model at that time and was photographed for the cover of Eerie Magazine as Spider Woman. A photo of me was featured in a San Francisco calendar for 1982 - I was between June and July. I never got a copy of the Eerie Magazine, although I have looked high and low for it. Perhaps it never got published. Here's the "Beastmaster" photo: Here's how the family homestead in central Texas looked circa 1870: This is the house where my father was born. In 1932, my great-grandfather and grandfather tore it down and built the house where I grew up. I never met my grandfather because he died a couple of years before I was born....See Moreraphaellathespanishwaterdog
