The general rule here on Houzz is no fake wood next to real wood.

It is also popular here to have hardwood in the kitchen (one continuous floor).

So you will be asked if you can (or are willing to) extend the hardwood into the kitchen.

If you want vinyl, I would think that a vinyl that does not pretend to be wood would be acceptable to the majority here.

"The general rule on Houzz" and "acceptable to the majority here" are somewhat strange statements. It's just a fact that real hardwood floors do not look good when juxtaposed against vinyl plank, whether you ask Houzzers or any other design professional.

I would either extend the hardwood into the kitchen or use a vinyl that looks like stone or anything other than wood. Or use Marmoleum or ceramic tile.

Luxury vinyl tile that comes in planks can mimic stone or porcelain tile as well as wood. That would look better than having something that looks like wood, but isn't wood, next to real wood. You could have it laid in a herringbone pattern which would contrast nicely with the wood flooring. One of my friends did this when they remodeled their kitchen recently.

I assume you're interested in LVT because it's softer than real tile. As the poster above says, many people now have real wood in their kitchens. However, we moved into a house recently that has wood floors in the kitchen and I don't like it. I never feel like I can get it as clean as tile because you have to clean it gently so you don't damage the surface. We did put LVT in the finished basement and I like it there. If I were remodeling my current kitchen I would go back to ceramic/porcelain tile. But some people think that is too hard. I don't do elaborate meal prep, so I am never standing on the surface for long periods of time so that never bothered me.

Go to a good flooring store that has lots of options if there is one in your area and take some time to think about what you really want and will look good with the rest of the kitchen.

I would put a floor that looks like marble, not wood. My only issue is that the new floor is wide planks next to my narrow hardwood planks. Would probably do them in the opposite direction. Would love to see a pic of something similar.

Take a look at Marmoleum. It is linoleum. What you have is probably vinyl. Linoleum is a natural product that is sustainable and recyclable. Vinyl is not.

A marble look would be too formal up against your more casual, lighter toned hardwood. I'd recommend a solid surface marmoleum so the kitchen floor isn't competing with the lines of your hardwood. You could choose a lighter color that blends with your wood floors for a more continuous line.
