Comments (20)zone4newby- yes, we will have a closed wardrobe to address coats, bags, shoes. Kirkhall -We will be building in ikea pax wardrobes, so I don't see a conflict with the pocket door. - The walk in closet in the bonus will only have one door on the end. Storage will be along a wall on one side. -The family room/screened porch door is a double French door, likely one fixed. Need to decide, but agree the swing needs to change. -I do not want the garage entry into the laundry room. It will have lots of cabinetry/storage/counters I want to preserve. I expect surplus grocery storage and little used kitchen stuff will be in the laundry room. In the garage, right outside the door will be an indoor/outdoor carpet to take off your shoes, put away your coat, and stash anything you need to. -I am open to rearranging the kitchen, but I've been in a house with this layout and its comfortable. Perhaps bumping the island toward the dining area another 6" would avoid butt to butt contact, I think it's at 3'6" as it is. I feel like the island would look weird with the sink to one side. Am I wrong? Along the garage wall is where the full size frig and freezer will be located. I would assume prep work would happen on either side of the sink, or or the right of the sink. -You're right, I never realized the master toilet was farther than the hall toilet. We've decided no door is right for us, but maybe changing the closet door location would be prudent. I'll break out my graph paper and see what I can come up with. Thanks for your comments and keep them coming! I'm only doing this once, from here to a pine box. Tracy...See MoreWorkstation sinks? Size? Brand?
Comments (14)I purchased and installed the Kraus Kore 30" sink with offset drain this summer. This is our only sink. I think the sink drains well. Larger bits of food do hang around until I spray them into the drain. It has been a process to get used to the grid. Most of the time I like it, but with 2 teens in the house all the time (and eating not stop), by the end of the day it is gross. I really like the roll up dish rack, I have found that we use that the most. I don't leave the cutting board in the sink all the time, but it is right next to the sink in a drawer. I like that I can have the cutting board in the sink using it and there is still plenty of room for someone to use the faucet. I personally like wooden cutting boards better than plastic, but that is a debate for another day :) My least favorite thing about the sink is that it has 0 radius seams on the 2 short sides. Is is definitely harder to get food out of the seams on those 2 sides. The longer sides have a slight radius which make a huge difference. I do agree with Peke about 2 things- I have noticed that water does not drain off of the ledge that the accessories sit on. I just wipe it down in the evening. Annoying but not the end of the world. If you need to get to anything on the back side of the sink, it will be a huge pain! I do have the Never-MT on my soap dispenser and it was a pain to get in it especially since with the offset drain my disposal is right in front of it . I do really like having the offset drain, as the left side of my cabinet is where the trash is. Over all I am very happy with the sink and love having all of the room and the ability to do multiple things at it. I highly recommend this type of sink....See MoreAdvise please: area above kitchen sink
Comments (10)Keep whatever you add uncomplicated and make sure you don't block the light. Consider adding some small Tiffany style sun catchers attached to the windows with suction cups to add your choice of color or vibe to the room. This holiday time of year, you can usually find some good suction cups at Dollar Tree. The sun catchers are small enough to be easily stored so they can be changed out according to your mood or the season of the year or the holiday or the likes/preferences of the person you're celebrating. Suncatchers can help keep birds from crashing into your windows. Selectively collecting them -- only what you'll actually use -- can be fun -- something to look for not just new and on line but also in "used stuff stores": antique and thrift stores such as Habitat for Humanity and Good Will and Salvation Army, etc.. You may find you end up putting a few in windows in other rooms as well....See More36" stainless steel one-basin workstation sink recommendations?
Comments (20)Purpleplume, I did not see my specific model before ordering. I believe it is a new model. I've looked at so many sinks that I imagine I did see a Ruvati sink. Because I have seen so many sinks, I knew what sort of features that I wanted so seeing my particular sink in person before ordering wasn't as big a deal as you would think. Also, there just were not many sinks that ticked off all the boxes that I wanted. That is--not zero radius, stainless steel, 16 gauge, 33" width, one basin, center drain, workstation. For example, I know that I hate zero radius sinks. The "working models" (sinks with actual water hooked up to them) that were zero radius sinks at the numerous showrooms I have visited all seemed to have gunk in the corners. So, I knew that I wanted a rounded radius corner. I could look at an internet picture and see what sort of corner the sink had without having to actually see it in person. The gauge of the sink is how thick it is. So if I know that a sink is 16 gauge, I don't have to see it actually in person to have a sense of its quality. The beauty of buying from Home Depot is that the sink was shipped to my house for free and is returnable. There are probably other stores with equally attractive selling policies. So, you can order the sink, and if you don't like it, simply return it....See MoreSimona
