Some option with charcoal gray siding

I like the vertical siding for your style house. I do not much like the green color. I really like the charcoal gray. I would also like vertical siding in a nice cedar stain on your style house too. It may be a bit quirky, but, it is interesting, and I like it a lot.

Forest green might be nice....but I think the gray contrasts better against all the green of nature surrounding the house. Of course, this gray is very trendy right now too. One day, we'll look back & remember when everyone painted their homes gray (at least, that's the deal where I live). But that's not all bad. Will still look good as gray!

Thanks everyone! Here’s a sample plank against the house. I’m leaning a little more towards a grey but not charchol - maybe like a green-gray? This is the hardest decision I have ever made!

I like both gray and green but if going with a green I would go a bit darker.

Also find some more contemporary styled skirting to replace the lattice.

We have a tall house with mostly vertical siding and I think our house would look better with more horizontal - ity. (Made up word). Yours too. I think a cedar / dark gray would look fabulous.

Umm your house is amazing! Where would you do horizontal? In the middle or down below?

Narrowed down a couple of grey options. I don’t want anything with blue tones. Yes a threw an off-white in there too.

@Allison Stokes, those are three different internet house photos I pulled, with three different ideas for combining charcoal and wood. They do look alike!

I wish I could do visuals. Could you replace the board and batten with horizontal wood siding for the lower center and then the door area in wood? Bigger, modern lights then?

or white and charcoal, like this one. All white, charcoal in the door area and then charcoal in the area to the left of the door ? Maybe that lower area in horizontal to ground it.

You all have such great ideas! I messed around in the Certainteed site…here are some combos. Thinking I could either do a paint match on the bottom or start the siding from the ground up?

I love the Hudson slate sample, and I would do all vertical. I am not fond of the green sample you have against the house right now. I think because of all the trees and the general setting of the house, the darker grays will look a lot better.

Go darker grey and contrast the whole middle section.

I love your color-choices in your 2nd picture, Alison, & the one beneath it too. And yes, the entire middle section colored the same color would be great.

After you’ve decided on exterior, you’ll need new lights. Better illumination first. Then I would look (regardless of your style indoors) for modern, contemporary, mid-century or industrial. Something very linear, or geometric. Stronger lines, larger scale and brighter than those carriage lights are giving you.

Oh yes all lights are going. Our interior is mid century.

Oh, and to give you your green, choose a bold green for the door? Not too olive. Emerald, lime, something that will pop. Or another bold color. If your budget allows, get a new door without the crescent window.

Mid century - perfect! Take it to the hilt, then. Fun!

Yes - new door as well! Picture window going on the right then replacing the vinyls with triple casements. Willl get around to the small vinyls below down the road. Also likely adding an overhang above the door. Leaning a grey/wood or white/wood combo with a door accent - thank you everyone!

Oh wow - horizontal too! I was thinking we need to do vertical but…maybe not? Meeting with the siding guy today to figure out if/how to do the wood element. Decking? Also our windows are white but I could get dark…

The house above looks very nice. Personally, though, I like the vertical on yours a bit better, if you decide to do the center differently, it could be horizontal. The gray in the house above is really pretty.

If you’re replacing windows, I would definitely get black casements.

I'd look at a LOT of photos before changing to black windows. The visualization of your home from @Therese N shows it with white windows and either seems to look good. I say this as someone who had to decide how to color the posts on her new porch, and am really glad I almost went blind looking at photos of white, black and wood porch columns.

It all depends on what style home you prefer. The pic I posted definitely has a more modern vibe with the black windows and wood feature siding. But I also like the pics of what Celery did, which is a little more transitional style. Either way looks great, so go with the style that's more you.

My crude little paint job. 😉 Yes, I agree color depends on the look you want, but my preference is still black for this house style.

Update! Finally landed on Stratus Grey siding from Mitten (board and batten, 7"). Black roof. Now to decide on trim...

Update! Siding job is complete. We couldn’t afford to swap all our windows out so had to stick with white trim, sadly. Next step is the front step and door replacement. Thanks everyone for your help again.
