Upper level siding I would do something thick. A thick slat will enhance your home. I’d personally probably do white. But you can totally do any color.
Wood stain might look pretty too. I’d bring in wood elements as well. Maybe window boxes.
And for the porch posts. The brick is nice as is. Not necessary to paint.

We were considering replacing the cedar board and batten, there's a few small spots by the garage where it's starting to rot, but do you all think we should keep it? It doesn't look outdated?

I like the plain board exterior, but feel you need some more contrast between siding and trim. I would look at a slightly darker color for the siding and keep the white trim. A plain garage door would look better than the square-boxy style. Enlarge the shutters to a functional size. Plan the color for the roof at the same time, then have the work done in stages or all at once according to your budget.

I like the combination. I think it is available in vinyl. All clapboard will look good, too. When you change your roof, a new color will have a huge impact.

LOL, I too have board and batten original to my 1969 house. I felt is was outdated and almost replaced it until a few years ago when it had its resurgence. Now we're in style! Just replace the part that is rotting.

That's also why I don't paint my brick. One of these days, painted brick will be passe or at least confined to the old school look on old buildings. Or maybe not. I'm also very frugal and don't want to spend the money on painting a nice brick such as the one you have.

I like your colors now but agree with the advice above about playing with darker shades of the same color and wider shutters..

I appreciate the feedback. I wasnt sure at first, but we decided to keep the board and batten and not to paint the brick. We’re looking at maybe going with a mid to darker shade of grey siding with the charcoal or dark grey roof, or a darker khaki tone of the color we have for the siding with a brown roof. still deciding.

Your home is cute and very well maintained. My first thought was that it was an “after” photo! I suggest that you re-size your shutters. Measure from the edge of the window trim to the center of each window. That should be the width of your shutters. Yours look a bit narrow. They should appear like they would actually meet if they shut!
