Getting Ready to Start Guest Bathroom Remodel
Comments (3)It may be best for accessibility options to have a shower curtain. If your mother gets to the point where she needs assistance, shower doors will be a hindrance since the opening will never be more than about 34" Also consider grab bars: if you are redrywalling and such put wood blocking behind the walls so grab bars can be added. Consider doing a pedestal sink with separate storage. Or, I got a 30" Kraftmaid vanity will all plywood construction for $169 + $100 delivery. It was new surplus. The lighting may have to be brighter than you would use yourself. Consider overlighting the bath a bit and putting it on a dimmer. She may also like a heat lamp....See MoreRemodeling bathroom and need advice
Comments (4)Well, kinshasa, your list looks interesting to me since I'm in the process of planning a remodel of our master bath. Here's my list: Vanity Top - Emperador Light marble (I love the creamy veining in it!) Backsplash - Emperador Light/Dark marble mosaic in three rows around the back and sides of the vanity top. Bathtub - Kohler Mendota almond (bisquit seems almost white with a pink tint so we decided to keep our existing almond tub) Sinks - Kohler Caxton almond undermount (17" x 14") for an 84" long double vanity. The Laderna sink seems wider and narrower than would fit in each of our standard 30" sink bases, and we wanted more side room next to each of the end walls for items. We're still debating on keeping a shower curtain/liner or installing a glass shower door. He likes to shower, and I love to soak! Tile will be a beige travertine-look porcelain for floors in 18" x 18" and the same color for walls in 13" x 13" but we haven't decided how much of the walls to do in tile yet. Towel racks and rings to be decided when we find new faucets, but they will definitely not be located where they are now--across from the tub behind the door to the bathroom!...See MoreNeed a pep talk... bathroom remodel woes
Comments (6)I can relate to this post. We chose to use kitchen cabinets for our bathroom vanities because they're only an inch taller than vanity cabinets and three inches deeper. We had the space available to fit them in, and we have teens at home who wanted adult size for their height and more countertop area for their blow dryer, curling iron, electric toothbrushes, shaver, etc. We wanted to optimize the space available for storage, too. We decided to buy a wider medicine cabinet for the side wall so that it's more in proportion to the deeper cabinet sides and opens closer to the front of the vanity so it's easy to reach. We're planning to put a new framed mirror on the back wall with sconces on each side. We've wanted to replace our 4" on center faucet with a widespread but just didn't have enough space behind the old sink even though it was a small one. We're hoping to curve an 8" widespread along the back of the new sink and still have more space to clean around the back of the faucets with the added depth. Although we've tried to think through the pros and cons of each of our decisions, my second guessing is starting to drive me crazy! LOL Whatever you decide to do, it will be great to have a nice, new bathroom. That's what I keep telling myself....See MoreQuick Kids Bathroom Redesign!
Comments (33)One Devoted Dame-Thank you for your thoughtful words, even if I am tearing up a bit! My oldest has been very hyperactive-ADHD. This year, I discovered that genetically (her and 40% of the population) can't process folic acid (the synthetic vitamin). I have nearly eliminated her ADHD as a result of a drastic diet change...so this year has been life changing but also very challenging. The pottery space was not on the original wish list, but having her have her own space to 'BE' was extremely important. My girls and I love crafts, so I think the 7*11 space could work out well as a craft space, including for her pottery. I also can devote a space in the garage for it if she gets really into it. She goes from one craft to another. What I'm not willing to change is the built in bed/desk idea. Although if a kiddo doesn't like it, we can take it out and they are free to rearrange the space. My son is the gamer. I wasn't planning to give him a built in bed, but he really wanted one (I am putting a full XL in his space). What he wants is a larger desk space for a 3 monitor setup and a huge TV. He also wants this: So, I guess that would be his special thing. But, he also wants a garage to work on stuff like his Dad. Got to get through the house build before the shop goes up. I do think I like the rearranged girls' bathroom. It's more simple and should save a little between the HVAC/plumbing/electrical/fixtures. I think I would have to separate the tub/toilet space to make it work since both girls love baths..lol. I liked them both having their own hallway, but I guess when I think about it, I would have an easier time getting to both rooms with one hallway. I could also see them enjoying chatting in the morning while getting ready for school (yes, my kids wake up early....my son even sets his alarm for 6/6:30 to get gaming time in!)...See Morelee828
