Remodeling bathroom and need advice

We are gutting the our master bathroom which is not on the large size. Here are the decisions so far, and questions for those in the know:

Vanity top - Tetrazzo Bistro Green --- fell in love with it. This will be the focal point of the bathroom. It should be for the price!

Backsplash - 6x6" dark brown tile to pick up the dark brown in the countertop.

Bathtub -- something simple, no whirlpools etc., 5' long. Probably Kohler tub.

Sinks - Will Kohler Ladena sinks (12"x18") be too big for a 66" long double vanity?

Faucet - In choosing a sink faucet, I want one with a gooseneck because I wet my hair every morning in the sink. I've read about terms like spout height and spout reach but don't know the meaning. Do I need to consider the size/depth of the sink?

Toilet -- husband refuses to sit on a Japanese toilet, so no Toto. (Don't ask me why. He also won't drive a Japanese car.) My parents just got new Kohler toilets and love them. The toilet isn't a major concern.

I am having a towel rack installed on a glass shower door. We use oversize bath sheets and this will necessitate one big shower door that will open from the right. Is this a problem, or will it look weird?

I need to replace the window blind. Thinking about faux wood. Any other ideas?

Tile and paint have already been selected for the floor and walls.

If you install a hand shower in the tub or shower, it will eliminate the need to wet your hair in the sink.

Interesting idea. I'm a creature of habit, though. I would install it in the tub, as I can't see how I could use it in the shower without getting the rest of me wet. It's probably better for hair to go down a tub drain than a sink drain. It takes me only 15 seconds to wet my hair.

just google Sloan Toilet, they still make these. Look into getting new vanity, prefabricated one in HD or IKEA will not be much more than just countertop, but will improve storage. We got one from overstock including countertop, sink, faucet for 900. If you do all white would be great to use wood look tile on floors. Maybe wooden shelve above toilet.

a good tile person could have tiled up to the ceiling without any issue. you could try having a new tile guy cut the same type of tile and fill in the space. Or, use a tile chair rail molding. I believe this is a type of Cap Molding Or, do a decorative piece of tile. Or, fill in the gap with a vinyl crown molding you could also see if a tile guy could use some quarter round tile molding on your outside edge since you don't like the metal. not sure if this would work though pencil liner molding

Here are a few quick tips to find out how "correct" the install is (or isn't). Correct meaning 'will not fail' vs. looks pretty. Looking pretty and being correctly installed are two different animals. 1. Caulking is used at EVERY change of plane (ahem...corners). Grout is NOT allowed when tile goes around a corner or goes from flooring tile to wall tile. To check for caulking just poke your finger nail in there and push. If it feels rubbery = caulking. If it feels like hardened sand/stone = grout. **Hint** Look at the GROUT that is sitting all around the wall cubby and the grout that is running down the corner...check the marble floor/tile wall connection. Do you see more grout? 2. Did they use wood (raw wood) at the shower threshold? If you remember seeing a plank of timber being 'tiled' you have issues. 3. Water Draining out of the shower should be even. The shower floor should not have areas that are left 'wet looking' (ie. darker...marble is AWESOME at showing this...which means you can test this very easily for yourself) for hours while other areas look 'dry' very quickly. An uneven drying time tell us water is SITTING (ie. not draining) under the marble. Issues like a mentioned above can be a perfect storm waiting to come crashing down (through the ceiling? below?) around your head. They are also issues that point to a REDO (especially the shower floor stuff). The uneven wall tiles = uneven wall. They needed to shim the walls (when the studs were exposed) and/or float the tile (very difficult and expensive and requires an OLD FASHIONED Tile Pro to get it done properly). You didn't get either. In other words your General Contractor used 'guys' to lay the tile and not the EXPENSIVE Tile setters (ahem...GCs HATE using expensive pros...it messes up their bottom line/quotes).

I understand, but yes, that's what I use, and it's much easier than the sink. You would need a little extra rough plumbing to do it, but an added plus is that with some additional reinforcements, the side bar can be grounded so it can act as a grab bar. The pluses definately make the additional costs worth while.

Well, kinshasa, your list looks interesting to me since I'm in the process of planning a remodel of our master bath. Here's my list:
Vanity Top - Emperador Light marble (I love the creamy veining in it!)
Backsplash - Emperador Light/Dark marble mosaic in three rows around the back and sides of the vanity top.
Bathtub - Kohler Mendota almond (bisquit seems almost white with a pink tint so we decided to keep our existing almond tub)
Sinks - Kohler Caxton almond undermount (17" x 14") for an 84" long double vanity. The Laderna sink seems wider and narrower than would fit in each of our standard 30" sink bases, and we wanted more side room next to each of the end walls for items.
We're still debating on keeping a shower curtain/liner or installing a glass shower door. He likes to shower, and I love to soak!
Tile will be a beige travertine-look porcelain for floors in 18" x 18" and the same color for walls in 13" x 13" but we haven't decided how much of the walls to do in tile yet.
Towel racks and rings to be decided when we find new faucets, but they will definitely not be located where they are now--across from the tub behind the door to the bathroom!
