anap2400 - We went with a sonoma tile. I think it is stellar penthouse crackle in a 3x9. Here are the pictures. My inclination would have been more contrast with the countertop/tile, but the decorator convinced me that I wanted contrast with the upper cabinets and the tile and I think she was right. You really see the backsplash tile when looking from across the room -- you don't see it when you are looking at the countertop (like in the 2nd) picture.

That is a truly beautiful and elegant kitchen. i can see why you'd want to replace the backsplash. I think you'd tire less of the lighter tile in the long run. For starters on the lighting, I'd check anything by Visual Comfort & Co from Circa Lighting. The light quality from those lights is superb. Also take a look at the modern designs from Hinkley Lighting. On your floor, you might consider a product like Loba's 2K Invisible Protect or Loba 2K Supra A.T. without a stain. White oak in lighter tones is very popular right now without any stain. If I understand correctly, the wall cabinets on the sink wall will be replaced. Give that, I would run the tile to the ceiling, like the range wall
