Root Hawaiian Ti - sun or shade - add nutrients to water - more
Comments (2)Ti is a very forgiving plant; I've had fine results rooting cuttings in plain tap water - in the shade on my back porch. Once there were enough roots, I potted them up in regular potting mix & transplanted outdoors when there was new growth. I've even grown plants from a cutting that was part of a florist's bouquet. Roots form along the stem, so the longer the better, IME....See MoreAnts in Hawaiian Ti plant, indoors
Comments (1)I am hesitant about direct application of anything that would affect the PH of the plant ==>> i dont understand that statement at all ... its simply not a variable i would ever consider ... but i will tell you my solution.. when a plant get so big i cant move it ... or repot it ... i propagate it ... and start a new.. healthy clone.. an actual part of the same plant ... and once it is thriving.. i got rid of the monster ... a rejuvenation process if you will ... and it being the same plant ... all memories attached.. still are ... all i did.. was change its form ... since you state you are a novice... i first ask.. are you sure on the ID ... and then suggest you google for the latin name.. then add PROPAGATION to the search.. and you will find all you need to know.. i am betting my shiny penny .... its a simple process of this type of plant ... in the alternative.. the gurus in the houseplant forum might have more specific knowledge about this houseplant ... in other words.. i wouldnt spend a fortune.. trying to save it ... when i could probably root some cuttings for free ... plus some clean new media for a smaller pot .... good luck ... ken ps: besides.. when you get back half your living room.. lol.. you will be so happy with this healthy small plant ... lol ......See MoreWhy Are People so Unhappy with Vinyl Windows
Comments (22)Thanks SkyDawggy for the vinyl additive info. I understand new technology is coming up with various blends to strengthen vinyl. Just did a research on a fabric that is made of vinyl backing but has special Flouride-based protective layer on top that can make it last 12 to 20 years. They thermally bond the protective layer to the vinyl fabric. This is similar to many fabric covered structures in use all over the country. Our company is looking at using it to cover an outdoor sports area for employees. My comment was just that for a homeowner, we make our choices based on various factors. While vinyl may last 20 years, and I believe it can, even with our Milgard windows, I may decide to pay a bit more for something that has a better chance (no guarantee) to last 30, 40 or 50 years. It depends on our needs and how willing we are to part with our hard-earned cash. There is another post now declaring Marvin windows and doors failed after 13 years. So we consumers are all just taking chances and hoping to come out even....See MoreHawaiian Ti plant babies
Comments (7)aputernut - Thank you! I'm glad that they multiply, since my daughter is already eyeing them - LOL! halfwaythere - Thank you, I'm loving these plants in my yard! I'm excited about getting more of them via cuttings or babies. So here's a dumb question for you - are those suckers then, growing from the roots of the mother plant? They don't spread by seed? I haven't seen it bloom, but wonder if I missed it. I tried to google propagation for hawaiian ti, and everything talked about making new ones from cuttings. I haven't had them long enough to cut one yet, maybe next spring!...See MoreKatie
