I have the red one and off an on I get seeds out of it. When the pods are mature enough they eject there seeds with a considerable force. I have found seeds 5-6 feet away from the one plant I have. So if I remember and when they are close to maturing I tie a little baggie made out of my wife's discarded leggings/hose whatever it is called - the one that has fine mesh like material. In fact I found many uses of that. I would love to have a couple of the yellow ones. I think I some of the reds saved from last year if anyone wants.

The flowers are always red as far as I know but there is another small tree that has similiar leaves and flowers that are white. I thought it was a Jatropha, just white, then I found out it is called a Spinach tree for some reason. Anyway, it is also a favorite of the butterflies. It grows slower than the Jatropha and the leaves area a darker green but supposedly it is not in the samw family as the Jatropha.

We have a Spicy Jatropha about 2 years old. It's about 6 feet tall, growing in front of a south-facing fence where it gets full sun (late morning until evening). Back in March, it had some new growth at the top of all the stems. Then, we had a late cold spell one night and temps dipped into the low thirties, nipping the new growth. Now I don't see any new growth --- or maybe it's just afraid to come out, LOL. The only sign of life is one leaf on a lower branch. I haven't scratched any branches yet to check for green... I'm remaining hopeful that tomorrow, tomorrow it will start growing again. We have another one still in the 1-gal black nursery pot I purchased earlier this year. It's only a foot high, and has lots of top growth and blooms. It's in a different spot in the yard but I don't think it gets any more sun than the other one. What's up with our Jatropha?

One plant became large enough to bloom last year. Shaped like a palm tree: single thick tall trunk, no branches, many leaves. Only at pinacle did it flower, so few for so large a plant. I am thinking that perhaps my four seedlings somehow can be made to grow multiple trunks, thus having more flowering pinnacles. Or to grow branches, if this species does branch. Heights are 16", 14", 9", 7". Guidance, please.
