Black floors .. sort of a nightmare to keep clean...12 by 24 tiles... hard to say without an idea of size of shower...both can vary greatly according to size .. shape.. of your space ...and color of grout...

The bathroom is 9 x 5. So, the shower is about 3 x 5. I’m thinking of a dark grout with the hex tiles on the floor and shower floor( probably around an 8 inch hex).

All the tiles sound too big for the space... and black grout will not show the detail or shape of a black tiles to any advantage...still .. very hard to talk specifics about your situation without a floor plan or pictures...smaller tiles in general will be easier to install ... And more in scale with the size of the bath... perhaps adding a contrasting stripe/s in tile application would work to add some interest

Thanks for the feedback. I prefer larger tiles so there is less grout to clean. I could use smaller tiles on the floor, maybe 8 inch.

Thinking something like this but toilet is between shower and vanity. Also, my vanity will be white.

Your inspiration pic is way bigger than your bath... your shower as described is 3’x5’.. only one tile will fit without cutting .. and cutting these big tiles in so many places leads to lots of raw edges that may not join smoothly...... I would re think the cleaning issue as a reason for your choice... there are lots of simple spray cleaners .. and a hand sprayer shower head will do most of the work after each shower...

Yes. Draw out a cube (or separate walls) of that size. Then try placing 12 x24 squares on that wall. You are going to have one whole tile in the center of each short end and 6” wide pieces on either side, or a 1 ft piece on one end. Do you like that look? You will have 2 and a half tiles on the long side. If you switch the orientation of the tile and put the narrow side down, you will either need to have the walls widened by the space of two grout lines, or have one side of one tile cut just a tiny (likely jagged) bit. Make sure your tiler can cut those edges well, because, the tiles being so big, the jagged edges become very obvious. When you have a busier wall of smaller tiles, they do not stick out so much. Only if you make the shower exactly the size of the tiles, plus the grout, and lay them in a vertical stack, will you get rid of cut edges. Play with layouts and see what you like.

You can also consider Corian or Swanstone and have a life-long beautiful shower wall with no grout. Anywhere.

If you vacuum or sweep regularly, a black floor can be nice. That is, unless you ever use powder. If you do not clean your floors regularly now, do not think about a solid dark color for the floor. Floors are not wet all the time, so their grout should not discolor. You can have more grout lines on a room floor than in the shower, without mold or mildew.

@op really comes down to *actual tile size, and the prepared wall surface dimensions, many times a 12x24 lays out fine with a wrap corner in say a tub alcove or smaller shower
