Need Help - Large Format Tile in Shower Floor
Comments (41)Birchpoint - Larger tile was from; http://www.flooranddecoroutlets.com/calacatta-porcelain-tile-12in-x-24in.html This web picture looks a lot more beige than my tiles which are more white. You can order a sample. The Floor tile is from Arizona tile: http://www.arizonatile.com/Assets/ProductImages/M/Misingi_Suber_464x464.jpg I think the combination of the taupe floor tile and the porcelain marble tile is the most stunning part of the bathroom. Though some might argue that we should have used mosaic in the bottom of the shower floor but I chose "form over function" for this. With the grab bars which I definitely use because I don't have good balance, I haven't fallen. There is a spray you can purchase on Amazon for tile or other possibly slippery surfaces that can be used if you want to be sure it is less slippery. My tile guy recommended it if i needed more traction. Maybe when I get a bit older, I will apply it for more safety. The size of the shower is one of the best parts of the remodel. 5ft X 5ft is the official size that allows one to say their shower fits the ADA standard. We didn't size ours for that reason but it turns out, it really is the perfect size for us. I love how when you are showering, all sides can be reached without moving too far yet there is still a nice feeling of spaciousness. Some of the pictures I posted in another thread may give you a better idea of the bathroom. Here Also, as I have mentioned in several other threads on GW, not having a shower door has turned out to be so wonderful and enhances the shower experience greatly. We had our contractor build the walls so we could add a shower door if we decided we wanted one but as it turns out, that is the VERY LAST THING we would ever want. To anyone who is in doubt, I say "try it, you will probably like it". Here is a link that might be useful: Hall bath...See MoreHELP! Bailing on Carrera tile at last minute - how crazy is this?
Comments (18)Thanks for your thoughts...it just goes to show there are lots of ways to do this kitchen. I do really like that tile with Organic White but too cold overall for me...and I don't love it with the fabric but my designer does. She fired me today. She is frustrated because she is "not getting to design". I chose not to bring up the fact that since day one I have been saying I want a white kitchen and ever since that she has been trying to talk me out of it. She also hates my farm table - says it's "been done". She wants me to do an industrial table - (IMHO, also "been done" ) and I did flirt with the whole marble/industrial look but in the end, not for me. Ooops, wrong person to guide me. So the moral of this story seems to be..."To Thyself be True"...but don't do it with Buttermilk Ceasarstone. I think everyone is right - it will look dirty with the white - I am now thinking Organic White or Blizzard -the two whites I loved from the beginning. I am going to find a tile that I can get quickly. Yes, forgive my former designer, a white tile. Then, after a few less painless decisions, (hardware, stools...), before I get my kitchen back, I will get my life back. Can't wait!...See MoreNeed help with last minute counter decision
Comments (10)I have a big sample of Torquay sitting in my dining room, and every time I pass it I think, "Why don't I just pick it and get it over with?" But I totally understand your fake stone issue. I'm going to visit every stone yard within 100 miles of here, and if I find a beautiful madreperola, I'm there! It's one of the very few stones that can make me stray from what I'm supposed to be looking for - a leathered black granite (I know - that's not even close to MP or Torquay). Have you seen Pip's gorgeous kitchen? I'll link it below. Here's a picture of a Christopher Peacock kitchen that might help: The countertop is similar to yours, and the oak cabinets are similar to yours, and the gray cabinets are similar to your tile color, so I'd say you could make it look really nice. Just make sure you fill your glass-front cabinets with dishes that match your gray floor! Here is a link that might be useful: Pip's kitchen...See MoreLast minute design help!
Comments (40)Hi all, just a quick update on things. Based on your feedback we have decided to go back to the architect and see what could be done by turning this into a 2 story house rather than rancher. This would (in our thinking) be done by moving all 4 kids bedrooms + bathroom upstairs and relocating the master bed/bath/wic to the top left of the house where bed 5 and 6 currently are. The office would likely go to the south of the house near where bed 3 is at. Perhaps a toilet would be located near here as well. We will of course share the draft they come back with, but if you have any thoughts or other suggestions as to the best way to proceed with this exercise we would love to hear them. At the end of the day, your advice (while hard to hear sometimes) is what we want and need to hear. For example, if we move all kids bedrooms to the top with stairs located near the main entrance, that will bring many things closer together (laundry being one of them). Are there other issues with the way we are thinking of proceeding that you can see? With our view primary to the north and east, we have wondered whether having the kitchen sandwiched in like that may be the best idea - thoughts?...See Morejshar2004
