Does your interior style reflect your garden style?
Comments (13)My interior used to be 'casual farmhouse' style, but since the 2 yo grandson came to stay, it might best be described as 'baby clutter'. It's slowly evolving to 'toddler clutter' which I'm sure will eventually descend into 'little boy camp style' followed by 'teenager'. Just as when my own children were still at home, my life revolves around the child in the house and that childs needs, this little guy is the cream in my coffee. The garden style used to be 'tidy farmhouse cottage' but in the past 9 months it has become 'benign neglect.' It still has many beautiful flowers and good structure as a result of 10 years of hard work and careful tending to beds and walkways. But the walkways are still full of last years leaves, the spring bulbs are pushing up through last years dead foliage and ground covers are leaping over edgings and scampering across pathways with joyful abandon. DH and I do very well sharing responsibilities in caring for the little darling-and he is definitely a high-maintenance little dude. I think he could disassemble the lawn mower or climb up onto the roof if we didn't watch him every minute. But that extra duty has cut all of our outdoor time in half. The one sanctuary that I have is my little greenhouse. It's 10'x12' of quiet solitude for me and I actually get to go out there about 4-5 times a week. I can only go out there after DH gets home cause if I take the little darling he wants to swim in the galvanized tub that's currently full of slime and goldfish. The fish will be going back out to their pond this weekend and I will be able to use the slimey water to nourish my plants. then I'll just have to find a tall and strong enough barrier to keep the LD out of the pond. When my three daughters were small I could tell them one time to not do something and they wouldn't do it. Not this guy, telling him not to do something is all the inspiration he needs to set his mind to do it. But hey, he's two, he's a handful, he's delightful and wonderful. I wouldn't want him any other way. Cheryl...See MoreMirrored Wall in Powder Room
Comments (6)How about a granite top cut to follow the lines of the bump out, then filling the areas on either side of the vanity with open shelves? The mirror below the top would be hidden from view where the vanity would be, and the shelves could be either open in back to the mirror or not, as you prefer....See MoreMirror, Mirror; Where on the Wall?
Comments (17)Consider three mirrors -- one over each sink and one in the center -- or an art piece in the center. Two larger mirrors would also work -- or the tower and a single countertop. But first, I would caution you to make sure your "great deal" really works. I think you need to do more than move the drawers -- the shelf is not showing at the same height as the drawer so that has to be moved, you are going to have exposed plumbing unless you add something to the open area, regardless of what side it is on, and the top is going to have to be modified for a countertop (the wood surround for a baby is not a good fit for a wet area) -- and that's assuming that the height is good. Changing tables tend to be lower than counter heights, so I suspect they would be better suited to vessel sinks than undermount. All of the changes risk damage to the cabinet (weakening it or requiring refinishing). I'm not so sure these are going to be the bargain you want them to be. Double check everything. If they don't work, it would be better to discover that before you start changing them so you can still resell them and recoup what you spent....See MoreMirror reflections
Comments (71)Jinx, what a cool little lamp! It reminds me of the beach as it sort of has a jellyfish look to it :) I'm also lamp obsessed and especially love antiques. My dad used to rescue old lamps people would set out with their trash. I found it mortifying as a kid, but was all to happy to take some of the the ones he rewired along with me when I set up my first apartment. One of my favorites has a nightlight in the base which I adore. Great choice on the rug; it looks so at home in your cozy room! Thank you... I love that kitty heart picture because it captures what a love bug Friday was :) That's the only time they configured themselves like a heart, and I was lucky to snap a picture before they reconfigured themselves. ilikefriday, glad you enjoyed the blog! What's not to love about another mildly neurotic decor-obsessed cat lover? :-D...See MoreMarilyn Stirrett
