Red wine on wall - help!
Comments (36)Brand new kitchen. Beautiful white cabinets. So new, in fact, I only have it about halfway reassembled. Husband breaks an ENTIRE unopened bottle of red white on the White Ice granite and it runs down the face of the brand new cabinets. It was a good old vine zin, too. Did I mention that it's a BRAND NEW kitchen? With some newly-christened PINK cabinets? Every cleaning suggestion I came across involved abrasives except this bleach and water combo. I decided to give it a try. Took a little patience and gentle wiping, but within minutes the stain was gone. Flamingos will no longer be able to camouflage against my kitchen cabinets. YAY!...See MoreWhat other reds should I try? -XPost from wine
Comments (21)Forgot to address this. I'm a wine nut, I admit. Because of the inconsistency in corks, and the heart break of opening a bottle of wine that you either paid a lot for or saved for its perfect age, only to discover the cork had failed, vintners are moving to screw tops. I don't even see synthetic corks. Believe you me....it's very strange to open a recently purchased bottle of French wine that you've drunk for years and have to un-screw the top!!! But I get it and I appreciate the effort to ensure our wines remain drinkable and enjoyable. Now what are we going to do with all of the wine opening gadgets we've collected the past few years?...See MoreWhat's your favorite cheap wine?
Comments (121)Now that I've moved to the southwest where the summers are HOT HOT HOT and the winters are mild, my consumption of red wine has drastically declined. I LOVE red wine... but I pretty much only have it in the winter when I'm braising or roasting meats. Spring, summer and fall are all about salads & grilling outside and drinking whites or rosés. I'm pretty much a rosé junkie now. Luckily the local liquor store has a huge selection. I'm partial to old world rosés because they have significant minerality and are very dry on the palate. Dark rosés are great even with grilled meats and lighter rosés are wonderful with poultry & seafood. One of my favorite combinations is a french muscadet with oysters. (That is one taste preference that hasn't changed: I still love cold water oysters more than warm water oysters). French rosés are inexpensive, usually anywhere from $8 - $15 a bottle and are fantastic....See MoreWhat is your favorite wine?
Comments (80)"They are death on your community small businesses." When I need to buy something, it's value for money-quality-convenience-selection that direct where I go. Sometimes one or two get compromised, depending on the situation, but usually not. What leads to the death of any community small businesses is an inability to be excellent and to otherwise compete successfully in the marketplace. Those that do so thrive. Those that don't go away, as they should. There are a couple of family owned small grocery chains in my area that are booming and doing just fine against the bigger guys in the extremely competitive and cutthroat business they're in. They do what they do better than the others - better quality, better selection, better service - and people go there for that reason. (for you Bay Area people, I'm thinking of Lunardi's). Smaller ones that are only "me-toos" go away. We're all better off for it. I only know of one local wine store (it's in Costa Mesa, with the unfortunate name of Hi-Time Wines) that's as dazzling an experience as Total Wine. Not as big but with a phenomenal selection and knowledgable staff to help. That store will always be around, for the reasons mentioned....See Moresushipup1
