is there anywhere in your kitchen that you have a stack of drawers in the 30-39 in width?

Yes. One stack in the island along with one big drawer under the micro-drawer. I will also have a big blind corner, or magic corner- With the pullouts

if you are certain that the four smaller cabs can be put to use as opposed to one stack on left and right..then I'd do the four small. It will cost more but you achieve the designated 'spots" . I might pick a 12 in wide stack of drawers for utensils instead of hanging in the crocks like that....but that's a preference thing. Let's see what people say about these smaller rollout cabs and storing things of this nature.

IMO pot and pan stoage on either side of a range is what you need and those need to be deep drawers I like 2 deep drawers at the bottom and if at all possible they should be 30” wide and then a shallower split drawer at the top for gadgets. I would need to see the whole layout but I would try to get those pot and pan drwers as close to the range as possible and IMO you never store spices and oils next to t arange Roll out cabinets behind doors are just a PITA to use I like true pullouts i use one for oils and vinegars but I store my spices in a drawer (actully ) 2 drawers since I do a lot of Indian cooking. The drawers let you label all the spices in containers for ease of use.

I’d do the smaller sizes, if customized in a way that’s useful to you.

I would go with the 25-26" cabinets on either side. I have a lot of cooking oils and bottles and there's no way they will fit in a 9" cabinet. Also no one (in my family) puts things away in those cabinets since you need to put things away from the side. I prefer larger cabinets for my oils and cooking utensils.

Have you tired putting your things away on paper to see what kind of storage you need?

Speaking from experience, those narrow pullouts look cool, but the reality is they are very limited in how they can be used. In fact, I regret the ones I have and wish I had merged them into the cabinets next to them.

My vote is one "large" drawer base on each side of the range.

I also vote to get rid of the blind corner and get more functional storage. Even with the swingouts, they're not particularly useful and if anything falls off, you cannot close the swing out without retrieving what has fallen...and if it's far enough back, you'll need a small child to send in after it.

This is your layout post. I don't think you've had enough assistance with that. Symmetry is ruling over function. Looks more valuable in 2D line drawings than 3D real life. It's a cabinet sales technique.

The sink-range run could be improved for better function. I feel the pantry and upper to the counter are not the best use of your counter space. By removing those you can move the range down to the left. Leave 36" for a wide drawer stack with 2 deep lower drawers. Consider a slide-in 30" induction range from Bosch or Frigidaire. Cleaner, faster performing, safer. You can search the many posts. To the right of the range a 36" drawer stack. This now allows you to move the sink and dw 18" away from the corner. You're now below the left side of the window. Doing this improves function for sink access by more than one person and allows more use of the counter next to the frig when someone is using the sink.

@buehl what would you recommend for the corner? Just drawers and eliminate the dead space in corner all together? I never even thought about things falling. That’s so true. There is not enough space for like a corner cab or lazy Susan since my sink is there. Next to the sink cabinet is about 4 inches then the corner.

@dan1888 I didn’t post the whole layout since it’s still being configured and rendered. Final measurements were taken yesterday, now that demo is completed. I was trying my best to center range with island.
The new 33 inch sink now is centered with the big 70 inch window? To right of window is 12 inches then wall. Should I not center the sink there?

The L-shape is about 225 1/8 by 119.5. There will be an island. But it begins with like a 25 by 25 big chimney (left side kinda in front of left of range) that was unable to be removed. Exact island measurements were taken today now that chimney is only thing standing in the room between kitchen and dining room

—coat closet even small one Previous one was 21 inches. But was in the wall that was removed. So to left of oven in pic above now is the coat closet and next to that the pantry.

Don't wait too long or it may be too late to make changes.

What is more important to you...function or looks? There's no right or wrong answer, just what's right for you and your family. Note, however, that it's easy to make a functional design look nice, but it's next to impossible to make a nice-looking but dysfunctional design functional without tearing it out and starting over.

And, as an FYI, most of us here are function first or "form follows function", meaning get the function down first, then work on making it look nice. Oh, and symmetry is overrated - strive for balance rather than making everything look exactly the same. As is "centering" in most cases -- whether something looks centered is based on where you happen to be standing at the time and it usually only looks centered from one spot.

@buel I still am waiting for my millworker to send me his renderings and new layout. Once I do I will post.

I think the symmetry has me overwhelmed. Because in the past post of mine I was blasted for my oven not being centered. For the right and left not being the same. It’s amazing the amount of things people say. Lol. So it makes me so confused. I do care about function first. But do want it to be aesthetic. I meaning the centering of oven doesn’t affect me. But I was told it needed to be by others on Houzz.

I do think the the sink should be centered with the window. Above I wrote all the necessities. And appliances ordered.

Which thread did they blast you about centering? That doesn't make sense. While centering may be nice, if it creates dysfunction, it becomes a bad design.

Some people value looks over function. It's not a "bad" thing, but it probably means they don't cook much (but not always) and don't really have a need for function...that's fine for them. (There are also some people that have a psychological need for perfect symmetry, but that's not something we can address/solve here.)

I can, maybe, see symmetry in the uppers -- or at least the doors of the uppers, but I would ignore it when it comes to base cabinets, especially since you have an island. Islands hide base cabinets and no one can tell if they're symmetrical, etc.

@buel. It was in one of my many older posts about design and chimney. Even FB groups like symmetry. Like originally we had the pantry next to the fridge. Adding bigger lowers around island. But that was when I was told it should be centered with island. Also I feared the 48in paneled fridge, with the 24 in pantry on the wall would be over whelming. For one because of the damn chimney that was estimated at 30grand to remove. And then I worried it would be nice to have a counter next to the fridge.

Here was an original layout. I will Also post a picture of my now demo with the chimney and how it is directly in front of my door. The side kitchen door that is being removed is around where the new range will be (to help with perspective)

Getting conflicting advice comes with the territory with asking people what they think.

I’ll say it again. The best thing you can do for yourself right now is to put away your kitchen gear on paper. If you don’t and you find your kitchen non-functional. Well, that one is on you. Not us or FB groups.

I like the layout you last posted with some changes. I find 12” drawers too narrow for me. I’d combine the cabinets on either side of the range into 36” wide drawers. I agree with others to remove the pantry on the left of the fridge and to make your island drawers as big as possible.

Why you would store you clothes 3 feet away from a stove is beyond me. I highly recommend finding a different spot for you coat closet or build a closet between the door and chimney.

I think we need to see a sketch of the entire floor, not just a small section (the Kitchen). Unfortunately, verbal descriptions and unconnected pictures do not appear to be giving us a real understanding of the space. We've actually been remiss not asking you to provide one -- we usually ask everyone to do so. So, from the "New to Kitchens? Read Me First!" thread:

The sketch of the entire floor lets us see how the Kitchen relates to the rest of the home. It doesn't have to be to-scale, but it should accurately show how the rooms relate to each other and should include all interior & exterior doors and windows. In addition, it will help us see how traffic flows in, around, and through the Kitchen. Label the front entry and family entry. The family entry is usually a garage or side entry, but it might not be. It's helpful to know which door you use to bring in groceries.

@buehl. I 100% agree. I only didn’t post since the one I had months ago was so very preliminary. Still waiting on the updated one. As soon as I get it, I will definitely post it. I must say. Feel so good how genuine your replies are. Like a nice breath.
