Kitchen design dilemma
Comments (9)That is kinda awkward. I had to really stu dy to figure out what you were talking about, but I think I get it now. You have a very symmetric setup around the range, and if you want to keep it that symmetric, then you have to deal directly with the post--cover it with backsplash material, whatever. Other options are to widen the hutch (I think that's a hutch to the right of the jog) to the left so that the edge of the hutch aligns with the jog. You'd have to eliminate the upper cab that wraps around the corner, and the base cab would then have to be pretty narrow. You could also put an "apppliance garage" in between the upper and the base cabinet. It might not be useful for appliaces (losing the 6x6 space), but you could conceal shelves for spices, etc. It wouldn't actually have to be the same depth as an upper cabinet, just a bit deeper than the 6", just enough to conceal the corner....See MoreKitchen cabinet and wood choices help (xpost in design dilemma)
Comments (9)do you have a plan?...too many dark cabinets [ wall, in particular] will close it in.....altho I like the java-dark!! consider dark bases with good toe kicks and maybe lighter wall cabinets or glass doors on wall cabinets or very few wall cabinets. Really depends on your plan.... I think If you want a cabinet dense kitchen I'd consider quartersawn oak in a honey or spice finish.....what other furnishings do you have..with the double hung windows I'm seeing a transitional style-is that what you have...blend of furnishings?? It would suit me to have the kitchen finishes an extension of the things in the foreground, rather than a lot of contrast...stay basic....medium stain colors I guess would be my first option. Gpod Luck..small kitchens can be so wonderful...find a few really special touches....See MoreNew Build Kitchen Design Dilemma
Comments (30)You've received a lot of good, helpful advice already, here and at the Kitchen forum. "most of the new models in Florida now have 12 foot ceilings in the great room and kitchen with many vaulted to 16 feet. This is especially true when there are views to water and they are using 10 foot glass doors to take advantage of the views." I understand about the views but people have to live inside a house, and in order for that to be done comfortably and pleasantly, you need a reasonable, human scale and proportions. Not something outsize and overscaled. This is already creating problems for you. At the very least with this sort of scale, an architect should plan for the interior problems/challenges that arise. As they have arisen here. You have two problems. One is the scale and size of the general project, the other is the layout of the kitchen. If we had a built in coffee machine where would you put it? First figure out how you use your kitchen, what you want and need in it, and THEN plan your kitchen. Not the other way around. How big is your family? Do you like to cook? Do you cook often or reheat takeout? Do you bbq outside? Do you eat a lot of vegetables and fruit? Do you shop for groceries often or infrequently? However, you can't consider the kitchen in a vacuum....See MoreKitchen Cabinet Makeover/Design Dilemma! Please help
Comments (41)well, you could always remove the chair rail. but yes, if you paint the walls, you'll have to pick the same color to carry out through those adjoining halls I think Pale Oak, , Smoke Embers, Nimbus, or Light pewter would all be lovely in your space. I'd also hang a nice piece of art here to tie in the pale aqua chairs, maybe to some pillows on the sofa w/those colors. the fireplace/mantle is way too traditional looking. I'd remove everything. if you want more Boho, try some zellige tile on the surround I love this selection^ or a cement tile with natural wood mantle or, do more of a modern surround w/a marble tile at the very least, do a diff surround w/out the fluting...See Moreherbflavor
