We are using three pendants over our kitchen table, with one larger one and two smaller either side (they are all those adjustable height PB Porter pendants, so we can play with raising and lowering to suit the occasion/table expansion/etc). Maybe the differing sizes/heights would help distract from Yet More Pendants? I remember in England it was quite common to have hanging fixtures which were then looped up again and reattached to the ceiling a little distance away from their original fixture site, presumably to allow flexibility in where the light was centered over time? I tried to do a search for a picture to better explain, but in so doing stumbled across this site below with lots of options similar to the sample you show above... is Mission your style by any chance?? I think you will find a creative solution which you may end up liking even more than your original plan - some of the quirks end up being the favourites, don't you find?! Comments on table shape: As you know, an oval table and a round table with leaves in are different ovals. An oval table is, as far as I can remember, NOT a hemisphere on each end. More pointed than that. I would look at them carefully, because your banquette will probably be hemispherical. I think a 54'' or maybe even a 60'' round will work for you in the space. With two leaves when you need to extend it. The style I would look for is a five foot round double pedestal or trestle table that could be extended with leaves. Be certain that when the leaves are inserted, the base spreads to provide a balanced top. Or, in a few tables, both circle halves move apart on glides, the leaf is inserted in the middle, and the base stays centered. (I think a pedestal or trestle table will provide better entrance clearance into the booth than a table with four legs, like the last one in the pics you posted.) I have seen antique ones like this., but not any modern ones that I can recall. Maybe someone will have suggestions. Maybe you can try out some tables in a good furniture store and see if the lop-sided extension on only one side of the pedestal is a problem. It sure is on mine. BTW Carrie, seems like every sofa and chair I've looked at lately has been 39-40" deep, so I was figuring you would have the depth for 36". Hmmm. Sorry. Also, I meant to tell you that I really agree with your decision on the bay window. That was a great addition and it sounds like your kitchen will really open up to the garden too. Hope you post photos when you get it done, and love that you have a job you don't hate! We moved our patio table inside. I'm comfortable with 54". My sons and DH want bigger -- would really like 60". We're leaving it in place to get used to a different perspective -- we're used to a 36x54 rectangle that opens to 54 square in that space.

I love all these ideas! And Beth I love how you photoshopped the fixture into my kitchen pic! That is really brilliant! You all are giving me some courage and hope! I was really worried I’d blown it by going to bold with the pendants over the island since my kitchen table is so close in proximity to island. So I think what I’m hearing and seeing is ok to go with different style as long as there’s some element that ties in with island pendants - like shape or finish. I kind of like the idea of tying into the round shape of metal rings that frame bottom of pendant shades. I think the contemporary round fixture with fabric shade fits that theme with the ring of metal surrounding top and bottom of shade. Also the clear glass pendant has similar metal rings on it. I really like the blue fixtures as well. Do you all agree that I should keep diameter of fixture on the small side since things in my kitchen are so close to one another? You guys are the best!
