Dress Shopping for Mother (92)
Comments (12)Thanks for all the input! Yes, I've tried JCPenney, Lisa - four of them, to be exact. The two outfits I took home from there for her approval were both no-goes. I forgot to mention that she wants 3/4 to full length sleeves, not an especially easy summer find either. It's an outdoor wedding near the end of July and church dressy rather than formal will do. Sharon, the Sears stores around us seem to have cut back on dresses. They carry mostly two-piece outfits with tops she won't wear. I have been pushing the idea of a dressy pantsuit so that nylons and shoes won't be an issue. She is afraid she'll be the only one there not in a skirt. I think an outdoor wedding will bring all sorts of outfits - and everyone will be looking at the bride anyway! So I'm still looking in that area as well. I've never heard of bridal consignment shops. I'll have to check the yellow pages. Kit - I've tried Christopher and Banks - lots of cute separates, but nothing I could co-ordinate for her. I have found blouses there for her that don't have double and triple darts in front. I'm not familiar with Coldwater Creek or Ann Taylor, but will Google them tomorrow. Nicki - As far as I know, all of the Jacobson's stores are gone. I used to love shopping there. There was a large one in Jackson, as well as Ann Arbor and Birmingham. (I grew up in Berkley, used to live outside of Jackson). I don't get to the Birmingham/Bloomfield area, but I've been in every store in Briarwood, Arborland and Westland while visiting Mom and my sons. We even drove over to Jackson to check out an Elder Beerman store there. Beverly, Travel Smith is another new one for me to check out tomorrow. Deanna, I've never heard of Schweissers or Glad Rags. I'll have to get up early tomorrow to run all of my Google searches!! No, I didn't get out kayaking, but I still have hopes. My son and his fiance are here now and they're going to take the kayaks down the hill to the lake tomorrow. Then a friend I used to work with is coming up for several days. We'll get out every day the weather permits. Thanks so much for all of your suggestions. I'll let you know how I make out. Bonnie...See MoreUp for more dress shopping?
Comments (43)Sorry to have gone AWOL, but it was a crazy week at work and I hadn't had a chance to shop (or sleep). One good thing with being busy is that I've lost 4lbs so I will try to keep going with that and hopefully feel more comfortable in whatever I choose. I appreciate the further suggestions. I had been thinking I had to have sleeves of some sort, but that daisy dress that mtn posted got me to try on a similar yoke style and it seems to help to slim the upper arms. April, I have been searching ebay and don't mind used just haven't found anything. Outside, yes I am sooooo long waisted, too. Short little legs, but long waist. Our best online dept. store is the Bay and I've got a couple on order (see pics below). Not sure what I'll do if the dept. store goes the way of the dodo bird. Anglo, I love that dress. However, I think the jersey makes it too casual for this event. If it weren't so pricey, I'd order it for everyday. Spanish, I really like that, but I tried on a similar one and it was very body concious. If I could be sure I could lose that 10 lbs it would be lovely, but if not, I think every jiggle would show :( Justterrilyn, I tried on the twin to that one yesterday in black. It is definitely in the running. I like how it just skims over everthing, but is still a little bit sexy. These are the ones I've ordered so far. I'm still thinking about the pants or a skirt and that is why the little pink jacket. ETA: sorry, not sure why the pics are miniature....See MoreThe "B" dress: latest report on wedding dress shopping.
Comments (34)Joining in the praise, and I can truly relate to value of a (good) decision made. I was curious to see the view count but I don't see it now. ( we need to know how many bridesmaids still counting)-- I don't see it though I have looked. I wonder if I need to sign in? lol...See MoreWhere are your young adult daughters shopping for dresses?
Comments (22)My almost teen daughter loves Shein and for me it works as she is growing so fast right now. We've learned from experience how to shop there. Take the measurements and measure them out on her body and length is important there, read the reviews based on same size and look at the measurements to make sure they look similar. Sizes can vary a lot. I also study where the length of skirts/dresses hits on the model and compare to the models measurements to avoid too short dresses/skirts as my daughter is tall as compared to others her age. Also read the reviews for info on how sheer something may be as well as look at reviewers pictures. I've only had to return some things and those were ordered for me as I decided to try it. The return process so far has been great. I bought 6 things and returned 2 which I was on the fence about when I ordered anyways. Just got an email today that they've received my return and will credit me. Said I would receive another email when that happens. I totally hear you on the stripper dresses - avoid looking for shorts as you will see the oddly overblown butt cheeks. The things we have gotten have held up surprisingly well and sometimes better than things bought at some of the stores mentioned here. We'll see how the latest order holds up....See MoreDed tired
