Do you have under cabinet lighting? That may help.

If you have a way to change out your lighting, changing to a warmer color temperature may help (only when you have the lights on, of course). I'd probably consider a warm off-white - but photos would help here.

Photo? Have you looked at all finishes, glass vs matte vs ceramic vs porcelain? I hear you on the gray days👎

Sorry photos attached of some of the tile samples. I do not have upper cabinets. When the lights are on, the color is fine. It’s in natural light that the colors are off.

I agree with @cpartist...with no cabinets on the walls, I‘d pick a colored tile, not white.

What material are your floors?

@salex I do have recessed lights that are 3000K. The colors look good when the lights are on. It’s the natural daylight hours where the colors are all off.

@cpartist I guess I was avoiding this idea Because in my head white and black are safe and versatile. I also had my heart set on a white or creamy marble but my eyes are convincing me these may not work. What colors do you suggest?

@Keepthefaith MIGirl I actually did look at glass tile and they looked too blue for me. Matte was a no because I have Honed countertops and wanted a shine to reflect some light. Polished ceramic, porcelain and marble have the best finish IMO

I know the dark countertops suck the light from an already lower light area but I fell in love with it and it was something my husband liked as well. We installed lots of artificial lighting to counter this “darkness”. I didn’t take into account the region where I live I guess.

@darbuka I have white oak flooring. They have a golden honey finish.

Are you anti-grey? I also have the Virginia Mist countertops, but used a grey and white marble herringbone tile from The Tile Shop. I love the look and get lots of compliments on it. Go to photos of Virginia Mist granite on Houzz - there is one photo of the gray and white herringbone there.

Considering the lack of light, and many gray Ohio winter days, I suggest avoiding gray tile.

@chloe00s no not anti-gray. I actually love the color gray. It’s just that there are too many gray days where I live and I need something that feels a little brighter and warm.

Agree with the suggestion for color -- a soft green like darbuka has would be lovely.

I completely understand what you mean about grey -- sometimes people who don't live in the north don't get it. It seems most of the winter there's a depressing blue-grey cast on everything, and when the sun comes out it's a reason for a party :0p.

@mxk3 z5b_MI exactly!!! I thought I could do gray—maybe it works in the summer but come winter it feels too cold for me.

@Yayagal I love that!! Most of the marble I have looked at has a lot of dark grays in it. I really love the creamier, warmer ones.

Thank you, Kristy. No, they’re not glass. They’re glossy ceramic, from Subway Ceramics by Heritage Tile. They have an assortment of colors. Heritage Tile has other tile lines, too. You’ll find them in the link.

We ordered color samples, first. The company was great to work with.
