same tiles for all the bathrooms?

We have 3 full bathrooms in the house and a powder room (and master bath). We’re considering using the same floor tiles for the 3 full (2 upstairs, 1 basement) and different wall/shower floor tiles. One bathroom upstairs has a bathtub and the other is a little shower (it’s in a guest bedroom).
Any thoughts about this? Is this a no-no? At first we picked all different tiles and it felt like too many styles, colors, craziness. Thanks!

Using the same floor tiles but differing the shower tiles/style of the bathroom is perfectly acceptable. I’m assuming it’s a plain-ish tile that goes with everything?

I agree. Sometimes something works best for you. Why reinvent the wheel, just to be different?

Look on Houzz dot com for inspiration pictures on the different tile schemes. You will find many. It will help you with your decision making. You make this your bathroom not someone else's. I have a 8x9 bathroom and I did my shower pan in a gray cast iron that matches the gray in my very patterned dark tiled floor, and the gray in the porcelain marble shower wall tile. Very different tiles. It was love at first sight and others didn't see the beauty I saw in the combo. Then they came around. I checked out many other possibilities before settling on this combo. I kept coming back to it. I even have a heavily patterned walnut wood vanity and cabinets. The doors are patterned as well. Realizing that I was using several strong textures I kept every thing else at a minimum, that includes the towels, counter deco, wall deco, etc. It seems to work in my eyes and I can't wait to GET DONE with it. I am a slow DIY'er.

While it can depend on the overall style of the room, as a generic statement I'd say that I wouldn't have one tile pattern meet another pattern straight on with no transition between the two. That's for most people and most installations. I think what you have to do is look at a lot of online photos. Or do mock up with your materials on hand. You may not be able to verbalize what you like, but when your eye sees it, your brain will give a "yea" or "nay" vote, and that'll help you define your style. Stye-wise...if you were going for a minimalist design? Simple? Clean lines? Minimal visual distractions? Then having one pattern butt right up to the other can look just fine. But the two tiles should relate to one another in some manner: Pattern, shape, size, color, texture, material, etc, etc. Some folk find pattern-abutting-pattern pleasing. But it depends on the tile, the pattern, etc. Others find it jarring. For a more traditional design, having a border or transition of some sort between them may be the better way to go. For a border or transition? If your shower wall was, say a marble subway. I'd terminate that pattern at the edge of the tub with a vertical run of tile. For a less busy look the tile for the vertical border could be the same used in the shower. If you want to blend details, it could be a darker tile, or something for example you used as an accent elsewhere in the shower, perhaps the same tile you used on the back walls of the niche. Easiest and safest is to use the same material as the shower tile. The vertical of the border will act as a transition between the marble in the shower and the backsplash pattern on the sink wall. In the end, trust your eyes and your gut. If it feels wrong, it probably is wrong. For you. Good luck.

So many people today splurge on expensive tile and then shop for a deal on the installer. Very backwards but its becoming the norm. @OP I would carefully word the ""detailed scope" in the tile portion of your contract and do some homework on MFG installation instructions and product wrrty's. So much installer error going around these days by novice hacks. I.E. "All tile installation and tile prep work is to meet/comply with IRC, TCNA, ANSI and all MFG instructions"..........

How about picking a different for each. The two with the same tile for the guest baths and the other for the master. Or do all the same floor tiles but different cabinets and/or counters if you like.

Yes, the tiles will be plainish, I'm adding a pic of tile online that looks like the one we plan to use. What do you think?

I think bathrooms can be completely to your taste and how you function.

Powder rooms are often deliberately done as a bandbox fantasy.

Master bathrooms often relate to the decor in the master bedroom.

Bathrooms do relate to the architectural style of the home - to the extent there is one.

I don't think there is any one fits all answer. I recently remodeled and my master and guest bath are similar but not identical but that is because I live in an 1100 square foot condo so all of the design elements relate to each other somewhat.

I did use the same wall tiles for both bathrooms but a slightly different tile for my kitchen which is close to the guest bath since it is close to the kitchen.

My floor tiles are similar but not the same in the bathrooms - honed Calacatta basketweave for the master bath and polished Carrara dog bone tile for the guest bath/powder room.

The granite in the guest bath is the same Black Galaxy as was used in the kitchen whereas the counters in my master bath are French Vanilla marble for a softer look.

The guest bath has a copper sink which relates to the copper sink, ceiling, hood and accents in the kitchen. The master bath has a classic white sink.

The tile design is much more elaborate in the master bath as I have different tiles and a marble insert in the shower whereas the guest bath has just the 3" x 6" subway tile with a relatively simple black trim.

Fixtures are the same but slightly different - e.g. my guest bath trim and faucets are have with green marble accents whereas the fixtures in the master bath are the same style but have rose onyx marble trim.

I have Chinoiserie wallpaper above the tile in both bathrooms but the wallpaper in the guest bath has a blue background which relates more to the common areas where I used a lot of teal furniture and the wallpaper in the master bath is rose since I opted for light rose accents (and some teal) in the master bath. I also have an accent wall in the bedroom which is the same wallpaper as I used in the master bath. The Chinoiserie relates to the Chinese Art Deco rugs and other Deco style elements.

The vanities in both bathrooms are the same and they relate to the kitchen cabinets but aren't completely identical.

same tiles for all the bathrooms?
