Help with counters
Comments (25)Thank you Linelle. I've never had Carrara, so I'm not sure of the comparison. Statuary definitely etches. My marble is sealed with 511, once by the installer and I have done it twice myself. I have no issue with staining at all. I even forgot and was kneading red fondant once. Oops! No problems. Etches can't be prevented and you have to just roll with it. Now after 3 years, I can see what is turning to a nice "patina" instead of just etch spots here and there. I have certain places I work at all the time, and in the right light, I can see those places. I love that my marble is used. I love home cooking and making things from scratch, and I feel like my marble tells my story. It is still beautiful - I only notice the patina when looking for it and have to see etches with the counter at eye level and in the right light....See Moreneed a backsplash for laborite blue/green counter top in kitchen
Comments (21)I LOVE your counters - I considered a Blue Australe which seems similar to laboradite, but it was almost twice the price, at the time, of what I ended up choosing, Volga Blue. (very hard capturing either of these stones in a picture, isn't it) So I understand your challenge, I spent a long time puzzled over a backsplash for my counters. I went with the Seneca Tile company's Blue Lagoon from the Studio line. My counter reads black and hints of silver at first glance, the blue inclusions are subtle until you are trying to look for them, so it doesn't read too busy in real life. In the same line, they have a gorgeous variegated green called Waterlily, it might work in your kitchen Seneca waterlily- here's some more inspiration, some of these blue/ green mixes that may work- from http://senecatiles.com/senecablends-gallery/nggallery/page/1 Here's a work in progress shot of our Blue Lagoon backsplash going up- I have no regrets going bold and colorful, I feel happy every time I look at it...See MoreNeed help choosing countertops please!
Comments (57)Well, I just wrote a lengthy post with pics to follow up and thank everyone for their feedback, ideas, and pics, and it didn't post! I am guessing it had to do with the photos, so I will try this again with just a photo here and if it works I will post more separately. We ended up going with LG Everest for the counters (island and perimeter) and Sonoma tile in Aquarius for the backsplash....See Morekitchen countertop help
Comments (68)I love color, solids and large, bold patterns. I hate tiny splatters or little patterns. I will be using Cambria Bentley Quartz in my kitchen with purple cabinets. However, I can appreciate that others like what they like and don't have to agree with my choices. If you want a white on white kitchen you should get a white on white kitchen. When matching whites I have found the easiest method to see if the tones are going to work together is to take the materials outside around 2:00 in the afternoon on a clear day. You will see the differences in undertone so much more easily that using any type of artificial lighting. The same goes for neutrals. The two tiles below looked very much alike indoors, but wall colors were not working the same in both rooms with every beige looking either too pink or like mud. . . Looking at them outside in natural daylight the difference was much more obvious. Based on the pictures you posted of the last 2 samples I agree with Beth, the one on the right looks better, but that is based on a picture posted on the internet - probably the worst way to view color, especially now that we use cell phones that color correct the photos automatically. Sometimes the color doesn't look remotely the same....See MoreRelated Professionals
