Countertop Color Choices--help, please!
Comments (23)Beautiful inspiration pictures. See, how all the floors are in that mid-range? Some are darker some are lighter, some are brown, some have just a hint of red in it..yet they all work. I think white(warm white-the bright one will be too stark I'm afraid) or nice grey or subtler marble(if you feel you're fine with its upkeep, and are not over-improving) all have a potential to look nice You can bring cool touches in your countertop, with your backsplash, with your paint..or you can skip it altogether and bring just the accessories and some plants-plants are the best, they're perfect warm when you crave warm, and perfect cool when you crave cool:) As for your furnishings..it's normal to start with either a hodge podge or nothing at all..will take some time. Yes, you'll be anxious to do a mistake. But looking back-you'll see it was a fun time..finding, looking for, putting it all together, discussing it with your husband..it's a great quality time, actually:) Working on a house.. Even if you disagree. We disagree a lot-and it's still fun! I was also terrified of making a mistake..I should be terrified of our builder's crew making mistakes though:) It's normal. As for the stain color-do you have pieces of flooring left from the previous owners? try to stain them first, see what happens. maybe take them to specialty store, the one where contractors and trades go, you know? and ask their opinion of what stains they recommend on your wood to get the effect that will be such and such? But go to the shop where people have a clue..not Home Depot. These usually have one person who knows what he sells, who is perpetually busy..:)...See MoreCountertop Choices--Quartz. Comments (6)You are just replacing the doors, not the cabinet boxes, correct? If you decide to replace the cabinets -or- you can move your cabinets around, I strongly recommend moving the DW & Sink to the left and putting the drawer stack b/w the sink and corner - that would give you a really nice stretch of counter for your Prep Zone! Right now, you have very little workspace where it's needed the most - b/w your water source (the sink) and the range. You have an island? I don't see it in the pictures. And, you want to add a peninsula? You do not appear to have room for an island in your Kitchen, especially if you add a peninsula. What will the purpose of the peninsula be? Just to add seating? Unless you're moving other items, it won't add anything for the primary work zones (Prep, Cooking, Cleanup) b/c they will all be in one small corner - the corner b/w the sink and range. Regarding colors... How "white" are your cabinets? Pure white? Off white? Other? (It's hard to tell on a computer monitor as computer monitors usually do not show true colors.) I would be careful that you don't get a counter or backsplash that makes the cabinets look "dirty" or brings out undertones of yellow or blue - unless that's what you're going for. There's a thread right now from someone who thinks her cabinets look yellow b/c of her backsplash and counter. Can you hold off selecting a counter for now? If so, then I suggest you wait until you have your new doors in and you've re-painted your boxes (assuming you're keep them). I would also paint the walls and refinish the floors. Once you've done all that, I would then bring home some large samples of both your backsplash and counter choices to compare - materials can look different depending on several things such as the angle (horizontal for counter, vertical for backsplash), wall color, cabinet color, flooring, and even lighting - both daylight and artificial light. (If you're keeping your cabinet boxes, you may have to paint them to match the doors - I doubt you'll get a perfect match to your current boxes.) Personally, I've always liked darker counters with white cabinets, but that's my preference, not yours. BTW...your link did not work, here's a link for the Winstead door that I hope works: http://www.aristokraft.com/products/winstead?prod={B24B42C8-3349-440B-9685-F0190C182820}...See MoreFaucet Color with Blue Countertop. Comments (24)Note that your stove is stainless steel. Would go with stainless steel or brushed nickel for faucets and drawer pulls. You can always add warmer colors elsewhere. Have you considered collecting colorful trivets -- both useful and, hung on the wall, decorative as well. https://www.google.com/search?q=images+colorful+metal+trivets&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi4i_ahrerXAhUIbSYKHTwaDL0QsAQIJg&biw=1366&bih=650...See MoreWhite Kitchen Counter top dilemma
Comments (22)"I’d love to do a bold pattern, but I haven’t found one that doesn’t look dated."-well what can I say..lucky you))) ('cause I've found so many-but would leave me broke lol. Still obsessively think about some. depends on a house of course..I'm lucky to have a house that beg for tiles. And I myself am a tile person. And a pattern person. So we met each other. Me and the house. We met each other-and then compromised...)) Please share your progress as you go, if you feel like it..we'd love to see how it all comes together!...See MoreSammie J
