Please help me pick a counter top. Down to the wire
Comments (10)Thanks so much for the replies. For those interested this is a new construction so there's not much for photos. The kitchen will be L shaped with a 4x7.5' island. I'm not sure on my budget for the stone but I believe I can go up a bit in price if need be. Right now I'd say mid range is my price point. I appreciate the photos poohpup and the input gr8day and herbflavor. I was considering something leathered with not a lot of movement for the perimeter and maybe something wilder on the island. Any more pics that anyone has to share would be greatly appreciated....See MorePlease help me select counter top color
Comments (13)maxiepines, I didn't follow your thread about cook tops so maybe someone already mentioned this. A downdraft set within a gas cook top pulls at the flames. This isn't an issue with your old electric cook top - no flame. I have a pop-up downdraft for my island's gas cook top. Even though it rises 7" above the cook top, it pulls the flame when turned on high and even on medium, it pulls on the back burners' flames more than I'd like. The downdraft blew out (would that be sucked out?) a burner when it was on low a few times. Today's gas cook tops generally come with automatic re-ignition, which is good, because the only way I know this has happened with my old cook top is when I smell gas. Anyhoo, a downdraft set at the same level as the burners will do this even more than my 7" pop-up does. Can you add a pop-up downdraft, preferably one of the newer models that rises more than 7" above the cook top instead? Stunning photos, as usual, boxerpups. You rock!...See Moregranite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?
Comments (44)These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens....See Morecountertop choice help please
Comments (32)Wow, that's better! Thank you Live wire! You're absolutely right, heavy is a good word for those dark uppers. I'm not sure what glass paint is? For painting glass or for making a panel look like glass... probably for painting glass, right? I was going to have a couple cabs have glass and maybe even stained glass, FWIW. So, it seems to me that if I keep the green stove, then it's the stove that drives the color scheme? I love that last light. There are a couple like that on Overstock that I've been admiring. Interesting. Herb: The knotty pine is only because it reminds my DH of his childhood and his heart is set on it, although it might be a good idea to order a sample of the fruitwood, which I acutally prefer... online pic-wise anyway. I'd have never thought of such modern cabinets with the knotty pine but that is also an interesting route to think about. I can't say that they are really my style... or at least I've never considered anything like that before. Seems like they'd be seen in a more 'cosmopolitan' setting than our little rural river house. Hmmm. You know, that knotty pine in the kitchen has been flummoxing me since the start. I have no problem with it in the living room but since the LR is wide open to the kitchen, it just felt like the two rooms should be visually cohesive... kind of like the kitchen should be an extension of the living room, if you follow me. Thank you so much for the input, you've both given me some new ways to think about this. Lord. I thought I was almost done deciding and now I'm not so sure. Woo. Hoo! j/k......See MoreRelated Professionals
