Landscaping ideas, opinions, etc on pics
Comments (10)Thank you for the comments thus far. I'm in the St Louis, MO area -- 6a hardiness. We'll get down to 0-10 in the winters and 100 in the summer. Last summer decimated the grasses if you didnt have a sprinkler system. I ended up stripping off my whole lawn and reseeding from scratch in the fall. aloha2009: Thanks for your comments! I'm worried about planting a 30' tree so close to the house. It looks a little odd to me, especially when they mature, and there's always the leaves, twigs on the roof and risk to the house. BTW, no fancy software, just an ipad and a simple paint program to freehand on the photo. I'll post some additional photos later of the planting beds....See MoreNeed color ideas for home exterior
Comments (1)Weathered Wood roofs look very nice with greige/taupe colors. Don't go too grey, instead lean a little more to the khaki side of green/gray by incorporating more brown in the color. Take a look at Sag Harbor gray HC-95 or Clarksville gray HC-102. When you try a swatch on the house paint it high enough to see with the roof color. Don't worry about the center color of the painted brick until you settle on the main color. Just some ideas, hope it helps. Very nice house and beautiful yard!...See MoreAdvice or ideas for exterior color theme and landscaping changes
Comments (8)As pointed out, the central tree is a detriment on account of being so close, and being disfigured with too low of branching for the situation. If it's going away anytime soon, it would be good to get pictures without it. Another detriment is a walk that is too close to the front of the house to allow for a proper depth foundation planting bed. Any possibility of it being redone? A third detriment is the big green woolly "bear" positioned next to the steps, waiting to ambush anyone coming or going. No doubt, you'll want to add new plantings after resolving those things. The pictures you've provided, though, are not great for giving you graphic feedback. I suggest you retake them with the camera positioned in line with the center of the house, and at a closer distance than the first picture. You'd probably need to take them from the bed of a pickup or a stepladder that is positioned at the toe of the slope. Pan from left to right taking slightly overlapping pictures so the whole scene can be captured contiguously. Include space beyond each end of the house. Don't reposition the camera between pictures except to pivot. Changing the house paint color could be an improvement. White strikes me as plain and uninspiring. I find medium tone greys* with white trim to be overall more desirable. *Could be a variation of greys or taupes or lean toward a color ... but not BE a color. Avoid beiges & brown, especially in that combination .... so overdone to death and 30 years stale....See MoreNEED MAJOR HELP! with exterior paint color, etc...
Comments (2)I like your home. I also agree with you that the current color looks like an unfinished stucco job. Consider a paint color similar to the one below, it works with brick too: You probably need to sample colors to get to one that works with your home and brick. Also, if you remove the plastic inserts from the garage windows you will instantly update your garage door. Those half circles don't seem to relate to anything on your house, but the rectangular windows you get from removing those inserts would work well with your design....See Moredecoenthusiaste
