Help with exterior paint colors and any landscaping ideas please!
Comments (6)I think a medium toned olive would be nice. Too dark, and your roof and house will just blend in together. I would do an warm white trim, not stark white. A rusty red for the front door would really stand out against the olive. Or, consider a warm fall gold color. Be sure you paint the garage door the same color as the house, otherwise the white or off-white massive door will be the focal point. Gate the same as the house color, with the raised panels in the trim color. I would get rid of the overgrown bush to the left of the garage and put a nice planter there instead. I would also think about creating a curved bed that comes from the right side of the house and meanders down to the point where the little sidewalk turns to the front door - right at the point of the angle. That lawn space isn't really useful, but a pretty bed of low plantings and bushes that come up along the front of the house will take the eye to that area of the home, and bring it forward to balance the garage being so far to the front. It is a charming house, and your new colors will really make it feel even more welcoming....See MoreFixer Uper:Ideas on landscape and exterior cosmetic changes?
Comments (6)A few of my “non-pro” thoughts. For starters, I think it’s a good idea to do something with the brick, but a closeup would help. Large scale carriage lights on eith side of the garage doors & porch would look nice. The lamppost too, maybe a planter around it. I would remove the shutters on the lower two porch windows. It looks like you have a large yard ( for me anyway ), I would have existing shrubs removed & get a landscape designer to come up with a plan. Do it in stages if necessary....See MoreNeed Front yard landscaping advice/Ideas- Chicago suburbs
Comments (9)You can use annuals for now and wait until the fall to plant perennials. Take this time to visit local garden centers (not HD or Lowe’s if possible). research plants for your area (preferably native!). Here, we have a few local wholesale nurseries that sell retail one day a week. This allows non-industry folk like me to buy at a reduced cost. It would be nice if you found a similar arrangement. In the meantime, buy a couple of pots, plant them with annuals and place them to flank your columns, if they fit. Otherwise, just plant a few annual salvias, marigolds, whatever catches your fancy as a “place holder” in the beds....See MoreADVICE PLEASE! Im redoing the exterior and need color/design ideas.
Comments (9)well, this is the problem. I would love to re-stain it. However, this is Californian Redwood and is endangered now, expensive, and old. There are sooo many areas needing to be redone and I am afraid it is not salvageable. If I can manage to keep some of the siding sections, perhaps I can just replace the bad siding areas and do a mix. I just don't know if its possible to salvage...See More- 6 years ago
