jejvtr: Thanks for the feedback. I am still looking. You are right--that sight is addictive. I think part of the problem is my rug was an impulse buy--used Karastan on CL for $300--and the colors there tend to be more on the cool side whereas the curtains are more on the warm side. The navy reads more blackish IRL. I think I would prefer to coordinate with the drapes since I can see myself swapping out this rug at some point... My instincts don't always steer me in the right direction and there are lots of detours. How did your house turn out after you painted it? With a classic leather chesterfield sofa and chair, the loveseat should be a classic design with a high back and lots of pillows. This will allow for a different type of seating, as chesterfields, with their low back, are not sink-in and cozy. Also the tailored style of the chesterfield will compliment a high overstuffed english sofa. The two types of loveseats I would suggest are a typical english style with turned legs or a very simple sloped armed loveseat. Either go with a velvet or boucle fabric matching the color of the chesterfield and add big 20"x20" down filled pillows in a great print(s). or a printed sofa and solid color fabric pillows - some to match the color of the chesterfield. Don't try to match the sofa - this time without tufts - and don't go for rolled arms at all, as there is no way it will look right. Here are some pics of the two styles. Sounds like a fireplace re-do might be a longer-term fix. In the meantime, I'd paint the mantle a dark brown, a similar colour to your end tables. It's not trim and shouldn't be white. It pops out too much in the white colour. Another idea that doesn't involve any ripping-out is to go right over the existing mantle using a mantle slipcover in wood. I like your big squash colored chair — looks very inviting and comfy! — so I would keep it and then add another interesting, comfy chair in some nice color and get a much larger rug that pulled together all the colors in an interesting way —- and I would get a much bigger lamp, plus the right pillows and art. (I think all these rugs come in big sizes, not sure) Or I might ditch the 3 chairs and keep the 2 reds and then get 2 of any of these (except the blue, which I would only keep if I was keeping the orange-y chair) But I would still get a bigger rug to define the space and bring everything into the center and a bigger lamp and figure out what art I wanted over the sofa. It could be something as simple as black and white line drawings framed in black. In general I think the sofa is too close to the wall and everything should come forward a bit to ”float” the conversation area more in space. Instead of a corner table + lamp, might be nice to try a floor lamp that arcs into the space.
