Prep Sink, Cleanup Sink, Workstation Sink & garbage disposal question?
Comments (51)Sorry, for the late reply. I just saw this. No, we've had so many other issues come up with the build that have required all my attention, I haven't had time to focus on this. I do plan to use 30"-36" sinks. I will let the final cabinet layout dictate the sink sizes, so long as we are in that range. If I have an extra 3" of wasted space, I'll go up in sink size, or if I need a few inches for the trash can, I'll go down a couple inches on the sink. The main thing I haven't decided on yet, is whether they'll both be apron sinks or one apron and one under mount. Or, one stainless steel and one fire clay/ceramic/etc? Oh boy, I guess I have a little more left to decide than I thought! I think lead time and prices will point in the right direction on material! LOL! @vevmom, if your island is 10' long, I think the 33" sink will work nicely. That is still less than 1/3 of your island. I think bbtrix's photos above are great for helping to visualize this. (Thanks again bbtrix!) That island is 8' long with a stages 45. You'll have 2 more feet of island, plus a smaller sink. Let me know what you decide....See MoreRecommendations for white farmhouse/apron sink
Comments (15)@joseph_corlett I'm curious, what does it take to replace an apron front sink with a different apron front sink? To me it looks like many of these apron fronts even of the same size have different footprints. So it seems to me (and I'm no expert so I'm aware I could be wrong) you are having to deal with at best, cutting the new shape out of the countertop and cabinet or at worse having to replace those two things in whole or in part. While I've no doubt for a pro like you its entirely doable it seems like it would be expensive and definitely not a DIY job. My reasoning, and this is entirely for my situation, has a lot to do lean years and unexpected job losses. I'm in a secure time in my life but I never take that for granted or assume that I'd be able to absorb an expensive sink trade out in the future. I hope I will be able to if it comes to it, but of the two choices I had at the time cast iron seemed safer (as in it may be ugly but at least it doesn't leak) while still giving me the look I wanted. I would have seriously considered that Elkay sink if it had been available though, however I don't think it would have fit, I didn't have room for a 36" cabinet. I remember wishing they'd had those granite sinks in a white apron, but at least at the time that wasn't an option either. OP, there is definitely a mix of what is entirely practical and what you just want (consequences-be-damned) that goes on in re-doing a kitchen that is for sure! Though anytime you can find something tough that matches pretty close to what you want its definitely worth an extra expense, IMO. If not you weigh the risk of something not working out with how bad you really want it and then - decide. You live with every decision you make, but I've found that even the decisions that don't turn out like you wanted still tend to be better than what you get from a kitchen you inherited from a previous owner....See MoreWorkstation sinks. Comments (28)Meridee, that's where we are now too. We are definitely getting a workstation sink now and have decided on the 45 inch, but can't decide which one. We have it down to the Krause and the Create Good Sinks. We like the ledges better on the Krause and the radius of the corners (easier to clean) on the "Create Good Sinks". But we like the drain and the fact that you can get double basins on the Create Good Sinks. But are those features worth paying twice as much for? $900 for the Krause vs $1800 for the Create Good Sinks. The photos are to show the difference in the radius of the corners. First one is the Krause, second one Create Good Sinks....See MoreHavens vs. Kraus/Kohler workstation sink - worth it?
Comments (33)I like how Joseph Corlett started the flame war and then stood by while the sparks flew! LOL But he totally redeemed himself with the insight about the sink size = cabinet size. I did NOT know that! I’ve been on the fence about the true utility of workstation sinks, but I’ve come to realize the real value of huge sinks is not all the fancy sliding accessories but having enough space to take clutter off the counter for an orderly kitchen, like drying racks, sponges, soaps, utensils, and of course, cutting boards, which both reclaim “lost” counter space and reduce the visual impact of such a wide sink (especially if it is close to the same shade as the counter). Now that said, back to the actual topic: IMO it’s hard to justify the Havens/Rachiele/The Galley sinks vs your Kraus/Ruvati/Deltas, as the benefits do not increase linearly with the price; they are NOT 4-10X as good as a Kraus. But for me, there may be real value in: getting a 48” vs 45” sink for more usable space with accessories in place (45 vs 42” bowl width - 15” cutting board - 15” drying rack = 15” vs 12” open sink width (33% more space) a slightly >0 mm radius for easier cleaning supporting American jobs Still hard to justify 4-10X more money, especially knowing it’s not our forever home....See Moreskmom
