Vessel sinks Love them/hate them?
Comments (33)Hello all, We have had a blown glass vessel sink in a powder room for over 10 years - one of the first out there. ...it still has a "wow factor" and has not become dated. ...however, if it ever did, we could replace it in 5 minutes with something else. Why? The hole in the countertop is just 4". Not a specific shape dictated by whatever drop-in or undermount sink you are using (this makes replacing later a lot more difficult). We also have two teak wood sinks in our master bath and have been living with those for 4 years. They work well for us. We find that we actually have more counter space with the vessel sinks than "regular" style. These sinks are pretty cool. Obviously there are some strong opinions here, but having lived with vessel sinks for so long, for us, we have been very happy with our decisions. Good luck!...See Moreshort uppers over a counter. love them or hate them?
Comments (35)fori: it's kind of an unusual small house. Who'da thunk one wall could bork a whole YEARS WORTH OF PLANNING? taggie and taggie: Ok, see my open floor plan below. red x's are unchangeable. blue walls are exterior and unchangeable. blue diamonds are the traffic patterns through the house. ginny: yup. maybe a re-think (dear Lord please) is in order. It's almost happy hour, you want two right away or a token? Artichokey: DH didn't make an executive decision, he thought it would be good to have it more open which was originally what I wanted but at that time a year+ ago he didn't think it would work structurally, etc. He said he'd like to be able to sit at a counter somewhere so we could be together and not separated by walls. I don't necessarily want the wall. Or not want the wall. I'm trying to make the great layout that I had WITH the wall now work WITHOUT it and maybe these guys are right and I should try to go back to the drawing board. Uuhhhhh. My DH is very sweet most of the time and if I'm happy with the kitchen he'll be happy. And of course I want him happy and hey, if he wants to be able to sit by his old wife and talk to her when she's cooking, how couldn't I want to indulge that. ;) My challenges in this kitchen: 3 entries that can't change. Main entry to the house goes through the kitchen. What worked in the other layout was: having my prep/cooking space out of the traffic flow. I hate trying to cook with people under my feet. Although, to be honest, that usually only happens maybe 10 times a year at the most. I also am sick of trucking back and forth across real estate and I was liking my little 'cockpit' U area. I had a good amount of storage and space for my coveted all fridge and freezer drawers. Should I post this here or start a whole new thread? Comments (4)I dislike cliffhangers, especially in a book because it might be a long long time before there's a resolution. I don't like them on TV, either, because I usually forget all about them and when the series starts again, they better remind me of how it ended last season, since it obviously doesn't work on me. I'm sure they do it to keep people anxious for the new season. Ha, I forget all about it, because I just don't really care that much about any TV. LOL Well, except for The Closer, that is. Still sad that that show is over....See MorePendants over the sink: love them or hate them?
Comments (14)In my personal kitchen, I have a pendant over the sink. I LOVE it! It fits my vintage kitchen perfectly. My kitchen was too small for a pendant over my island....so I chose a schoolhouse semi-flush fixture over the island and a pendant over the sink. I'm 5'6 and my boyfriend is 5'10" and it doesn't bother us at all. But I agree....if you have pendants over the island...do a can light over the sink. I also think you need taller ceilings...at least 96". The ceilings in my house are 100". Here is another kitchen that I did for my neighbor...she used lots of fixtures and ZERO can lights for a true historic look. She is not a fan of recessed can lights in vintage homes....See Moreadettwiler
