Love them or hate them? Bentwood rockers
Comments (22)Leafy, I would encourage you to get a bentwood rocker since that's what your heart is telling you. I'm all for embracing midlife crises! Life is too short to deny such small pleasures. From my own experience family members and even BFF are not always the best ones to make our decisions for us. Several times DH and I did what family advised and later realized it would have been better to have done what we wanted rather than what they thought was good for us. They think they are protecting us from bad or trivial decisions but not all trivial decisions are bad. With such an inexpensive purchase as a bentwood rocker you cannot lose because if you find later that you don't love it you can sell it. Decorating can be trial and error and we mustn't be afraid of making inexpensive mistakes. I've always liked bentwood rockers and even the dining chairs but never had any. I couldn't justify the cost back when we were 'poor' (relatively speaking) and later didn't want one as much. Later, in the late 70's (I may have been having an almost-midlife-crisis then ;D) I did buy a hanging rattan 'hippy' chair and still have that. I bought it in Europe when we lived there. There is quite a cottage industry in wicker wear in the Black Forest and it's larger and of better construction than the cheap ones that are made in Asia. I even put it in my LR when I began to decorate in a more BoHo style and the Grands love sitting and rocking in it. I like the contrast between it and my more traditional pieces and have never regretted buying it altho I know some people look askance at it. Thanks for the link olychick. I love the painted bentwood rockers....See MoreCliffhangers - Love Them or Hate Them?
Comments (4)I dislike cliffhangers, especially in a book because it might be a long long time before there's a resolution. I don't like them on TV, either, because I usually forget all about them and when the series starts again, they better remind me of how it ended last season, since it obviously doesn't work on me. I'm sure they do it to keep people anxious for the new season. Ha, I forget all about it, because I just don't really care that much about any TV. LOL Well, except for The Closer, that is. Still sad that that show is over....See Moreanybody have USA Pans?? Love them/hate them??
Comments (10)I have 2 USA Pan loaf pans that I love. I have also bought the 9x13 pan and a square pan, but I haven't used them yet. They were on sale at Williams-Sonoma. If there is a minus, it is that you are not supposed to use them above 450 degrees. DD baked bread in my loaf pans at 500 degrees (or maybe it was 475) and I thought the coating felt a tad different afterwards. I've since used them for pound cake with no problem. The other drawback is they must be handwashed. But that is not a very big drawback for me....See MorePendants over the sink: love them or hate them?
Comments (14)In my personal kitchen, I have a pendant over the sink. I LOVE it! It fits my vintage kitchen perfectly. My kitchen was too small for a pendant over my island....so I chose a schoolhouse semi-flush fixture over the island and a pendant over the sink. I'm 5'6 and my boyfriend is 5'10" and it doesn't bother us at all. But I agree....if you have pendants over the island...do a can light over the sink. I also think you need taller ceilings...at least 96". The ceilings in my house are 100". Here is another kitchen that I did for my neighbor...she used lots of fixtures and ZERO can lights for a true historic look. She is not a fan of recessed can lights in vintage homes....See Morealabamanicole
