Advice on finishing old barn wood mantle

Hi, we bought an amazing old beam from a barn that was built in the late 1700s. We plan to use for our mantle. Not sure how to finish it to look best in the house. We love the old/history/rustic-ness as a balance to all new. I was planning to stain it with a mix of weathered oak and gray oil-based stain the seal coat it with a matte top coat. But not I’m not sure if we should just leave as is. Here’s a pic of the beam with our stacked stone that will be on the fireplace. It’s big and will be the focal point of the room. I’ll also post a pic of a very similar mantle and stacked stone. I like this but feel like the mantle could be darker. But not sure. Any thoughts would be appreciated!! Thank you!!
