Anyone use reclaimed barn siding for wide plank flooring?
Comments (4)Be careful! First, if the wood is oak and has been sitting and weathering for decades, its probably as hard as steel. It will likely burn up a $300 desk top planer in about an hour. Then there is the nail situation, one piece of nail scrap missed means a nicked planer knife. A nicked planer knife results in lines in the wood until ground out (by a professional sharpner). Next, to be safe, it s/b stress reliefed and as for cutting the tongue and groove, good luck! Thats a challenge even for the experienced guys with big rig milling machines. The guy that milled my floors said to get it completely roght, all 4 of his cutting heads must be milling at the same time. Sorry just my opinion and good luck!...See MoreHelp!?!? Comments (3)I'd look for places like this. Barns are HUGE, if falling down, they are dangerous. You would have to remove the whole thing probably and the cost of disposing of the waste would be more than you'd save by finding your own wood instead of purchasing from a dealer. I don't know anything about this company, but found it easily Here is a link that might be useful: reclaimed lumber...See Morereclaimed flooring finish advice
Comments (2)I recently put Bona down and it has held up great for years. Whatever you do, I would make sure it has little to no sheen. That wood looks great raw and natural. If the product is thicker or has some sheen, knocking down the sheen with a 3M pad, or a "scuff buff" would help. Looks great!...See MoreExperience with Pottery Barn Parkmore Reclaimed Wood Dining Table?
