In praise of day old croissants...

It's not that we don't have French bakeries. It's that I can generally deal without croissants and, really, while they are exceptionally delightful, they're not packed with nutrients. Butter, yes. Nutrients, no. The things masquerading as croissants at even the high end grocery stores are useless in their uncroissantiness. I've been seeking out treats, recently, of the high carb kind, and when proper croissants were offered as accompaniments to my farm boxes (they have a side service selling the rest of what might turn up at a farmers' market), I was glad they were always sold out. Until they weren't. Even a day old croissant (by the time it's on the table), is a wondrous thing. And *quelle horreur* if it should be slightly stale, what could be better than slightly heated with local brie(-ish) cheese oozing into all the crevices. Superb! Bliss. Must return to broccoli now...
