Help! GC got a terrible tile setter need to rip out tiles
Comments (4)Thank you...They put cement baord up around the bath area up to the shower head. Should cement board be used through out the bathroom? I also have an arch over the bathtub separating the bath area from the the rest of the room. They said they would tile the sides of the arch and paint the bottom (ceiling) of it. There was wall paper on the arch (as well as the rest of the room). They removed the wall paper but there is still a paper layer left on the wall of the arch. Do they need to put greenboard on the arch? I'm thinking yes. So far they did not do that, which I don't understand as they have already begun to tile the room. I want to make sure I know what the proper way is so I can surpervise the work...I don't really trust them now...not good....See MoreNeed help from pros for master bath tile choices
Comments (5)We're voting for the White Carrara Basketweave which has a more timeless appeal and will work well with your white subway tile walls. That fits your classic vibe requirement. The eclectic vibe can be achieved and further enhanced with the other elements, including vanity, hardware, lighting, faucet, and décor. Would love to see photos of the completed bathroom in the future. Good luck! :)...See MoreKitchen floor HELP! Any design pros out there??
Comments (5)I’d be so mad! What’s the name of the hardwood (brand, stain)? If it’s recently discontinued someone somewhere must have some. Since your dealer dropped the ball maybe he can call some clients who purchased it from him and see if they happen to have any leftover they want to sell. Did you call the hardwood company directly? Do they still sell the wood but in a different stain? Maybe you could buy it unfinished and then have it stained to match the rest of the house?...See MoreTiling Pros I need your help!
Comments (20)To add: You could have your installer cut them down to 10s and go 10/10/10. Just make sure the 10" wide by 8" tall tiles don't look to square to you...out of proportion with the space. Too blocky. Don't read that as me saying they ARE too blocky. Someone else recommended drawing the pattern out on graph paper. It's a great idea. If your wall is 3' wide by 8' tall, take an 8-1/2" x 11" piece of paper and rotate it landscape. Draw out three 3" wide x 8" tall rectangles. Not draw in your tile patterns to scale, 1" of paper equals 1' of tile. When comparing one to another, you can take in a holistic look and view the entire page at once. But when looking critically, cover the "others" so you are only looking at one pattern at a time. One pattern will stand out to you. You can then discuss that pattern with your installer regarding tile waste, cut edges, etc. How well he can execute that pattern with the tile on hand. With it being a sink wall, a portion of the lower part of the wall will be covered by a sink. The upper likely by a mirror and a couple of sconces. Take that into consideration. You can even make small paper cutouts to represent the shapes of the sink and mirror and place them over your drawn out patterns. Cutting tiles? FWIW (and that's not much), years ago when Kerdi was somewhat new, I posted a Kerdi Shower tutorial. The shower was 5' by 8'. There is not a single uncut tile in that shower. So sometimes you simply do what you have to do with the tile on hand to get a pattern or layout that pleases the homeowner. Fibonacci and the golden rectangle can be your friend. Or your enemy! Again, good luck!...See MoreAnna Zanko
