Flooring Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Need help from pros for master bath tile choices

Hi all - am trying to decide the best flooring for my master bath tile in a new build cottage in a Florida historic district. The main flooring is hardwood - and I'm doing the other bathrooms in a mix of different black, white, and gray tile floors and white subway tile shower walls (except the powder bath floor which is going to be this gorgeous cement tile). The master bath will have a "shiplap" accent wall behind the large two sink vanity. And I'm thinking of using simple white subway tile for shower (as I have used in the other bathrooms). So here are the two options. I love them both - but very different looks. Hex Mosaic or White Carrara Basketweave. It is a rather large bathroom (14x12) and I want the vibe to be eclectic AND classic. Is that possible.

P.s. Many of you responded to my previous post regarding using wood look tile in the master bath and I listened! So thanks.

We're voting for the White Carrara Basketweave which has a more timeless appeal and will work well with your white subway tile walls. That fits your classic vibe requirement. The eclectic vibe can be achieved and further enhanced with the other elements, including vanity, hardware, lighting, faucet, and décor.

Would love to see photos of the completed bathroom in the future. Good luck! :)

Some photos would help, but it sounds wonderful.

I love this look. Fewer grout lines but everything works together.

Lisa just a word of caution. Glass tile in a wet area has many risks. Don't assume your installer is qualified for glass installations. Special setting techniques are needed. Get the installation instructions directly from the manufacturer and make sure it's followed. Most require special mortar while some require mastic which can't be used in a wet area. Some glass can be installed over a impervious waterproof membrane while others no. Some Ok with epoxy grout others not. Be sure the glass can withstand the thermal shock from being cold to being hit with hot water. Research glass tile ghosting. Best of luck with your project.

Find a local kitchen and bath designer that can help you with all aspects of this. There are considerations beyond pulling together colors. Lighting, and the technology of plumbing are just two. The coefficient of friction of the floor tiles, and the positives and negatives of toilet choices are two more. There's a LOT to know! And we've done all of the research, because that's what we do for a living. You benefit from not having to read trade magazines for 6 months before you select items and still not be sure if they will work. It's not as expensive as you think!

Being that the hex tile is multi colored, I don't think anything would be a real issue. I would keep it sealed, however, being that it's natural stone. As for tile choices, that's a personal choice. I WILL say that several of my customers have done as you've suggested (shower walls and bathroom floor tile being the same).

Off-topic and please forgive....but a designer - not you OP! - posting to the world a photo of a Chicago Lake Shore Drive (ergo, super-pricey) residence with a cruddy filled wastebasket front and center?? Twice - thanks to the mirror. What were they thinking?? Sure not a good advertisement for their business. To the topic at hand, I think the swirling sand effect is very different and pleasing. And the thing about a neutral or serene effect in a bath is how easy to change the look with colored linens, a few accents, etc.

Flo- That is exactly what I'm using in my son's bathroom - dark gray cabinet, black/white/gray pattern floor (porcelain that looks like encaustic) and white subway tiles with dark grout! So I need to do something different for the master.

The hex mosaic seems far better suited to keeping the flow of all else you've selected : )
