Brazilian Cherry Hardwood Floors

We are buying a house with Brazilian cherry hardwood floors. The original owners (attached pics as we close in two weeks) decorated darker and I prefer lighter And more traditional/coastal, so the floors are throwing me off. I need a dining room table and cannot think of what color to go with that would go well with floors but not darken the room. Would love advice! Thank you!

Best thing to do is ignore the floors. I know they are intrusive but ignore them. Then you go ahead and paint over the beige walls. Beige rarely goes with 'coastal'.

Remember: anytime you want to add a wood tone, you simply throw down an area rug and keep going. So long as the two wood tones are separated by an area rug, you should be fine.

Paint those walls a warm Ivory, buttery yellow, a pale sea salt, throw down large area rugs in a very neutral and natural SISAL. Consider a dining table in a painted finish and stay away from as much brown wood, brown leather and brown anything else for that matter.

The house is long and deep, and your exposures are not abundant. Make VERY certain this is the house for you. Emotional reactions to light...........no right or wrong......are that in a nutshell.

I too am in the same boat. My house has a territorial style exterior but the interior is transitional. My ongoing kitchen remodel will result in things leaning towards the contemporary side. Part of the project is to replace the tile flooring in the kitchen and main hallway off of it and the carpet in the family room (which is off of the kitchen), dining room, and living room all with wood. I am debating whether to put in a handscraped as well. My designer thinks it may be a bit on the fad side and is recommending more of a traditional wood flooring since he feels it will be "timeless". My home is in an upscale neighborhood so I definitely want to put in something that is applicable and will keep the value in line.

Thank you, Gregmills84 ... Have read many positive reports on engineered hardwood versus real hardwood and the most important issue would be the cost ... I started to get information from Lowes just to get " my feet wet" in this type of floor... I consider this my "stepping stone" before I go to the "big boys" in the hardwood floor industry, which I am planning to do shortly ... I am in my preliminary steps in this project ... After I put together all the information I need, then I will analyze what I have at hand and will make a decision which hopefully will turn out to be a wise decision, based on all the information gathered ... ci_lantro, thank you for your reply. Two of my rooms are combined as one big room with a half of a wall high and a half of a wall long so when you enter the room there appears to be a very long hall way (created from putty file cabinets against the wall and my L-Shape desk and other cabinets in the room and desks. So the longer boards may look great here but the other room is small so maybe the shorter boards would look better there. farmhousebound, thank you for letting me know that you chose the slimmer boards for the vintage look and for your high humidity. I get high humidity most summers but this summer there was not much of a problem due to my new air conditioner unit. I usually have to run my dehumidifier all the time in the summer but my new central air conditioner solved that problem. But I was told by the installers that the 3.25" is more stable if the humidity changes and is better if they are not sure how level my cement floor is under this carpet. Thanks again for replying. I will wait for others to reply. I would love a close up of 5" wide boards to see what the Brazilian Cherry grain will look like since most of my samples are 3.25" wide so the grain is fine and cut off but pretty like this also.

@Pam P. Above are couple of stair jobs we have done before. Hope they can help to visualize your project a little better. The first used the floor boards and stair noses to build the treads with full white risers. The second used the full treads and white risers. I like the second more than the first, but cost you more too. White riser is where you can save money and still look gorgeous IMO. As K Laurence and Cinar suggested, try to find a specialty wood floor store or hardwood floor contractor in your area with good reputation. They can take you to the right path and deliver a happy result. Good luck with your project!

Doesn't look like Brazilian Cherry. Before looking at the pics I was going to say there's bound to be some major discoloration in the rooms when they are empty due to light and how wood floors will change color. Many exotic hardwoods and American Walnut, Cherry are more pronounced with color changes.

Not Brazilian Cherry but I like the natural look. Could be Hickory with the pictures I see.

So here’s another pic. It states on listing Brazilian cherry and husband says it’s not dark but has a red tint but to be honest, I haven’t seen it yet which is making it so hard (moving across country so only he saw)

And thank you! I think the beige walls have brown which makes everything so much darker so I think painting will help a ton
