Transitioning from carpeted stairs to hardwood downstairs
Comments (1)There is no transition. The carpet is loosened at the bottom of the step until the wood is in...then reattach the carpet and trim the carpet so that it just touches the wood. Comments (5)The skirtboard typically goes in prior to treads risers, the rough in stairs And stringers will be held off the drywall to accomadate the skirt sliding between drywall and stringers. if you have stringers already against your drywall with no space youll need to custiomize skirt first or dont use them at all and work on finishing drywall either way youll still scribe cut treads/risers to flush out at drywall or skirting you should also consider material thickness and look very close at code compliance with your new run and rise. also plan ahead and glue and screw your existing rough in stairs now and preemptively deal with squeaks NOW to eliminate squeaks after the fact. theres many ways to skin that cat. some preper glue some use padding etc. good luck & focus on your scribe cuts...See MoreConverting carpeted stairs with false open treads to hardwood.

The bonus room will definitely be carpeted, but not sure if I should leave the steps bare or if I should add a carpet runner beginning under the nosing of the top step. I do not wish to carpet the hallway. The carpet will be a low pile neutral color....See Moredella70
