Comments (3)Natural walnut or maple would be a nice contrast to the birch, so would be OK to me for an unfitted type of piece, and the cherry, I think, will look like the birch color, but darker? If so, that would be pretty, too. I agree with your judgment about the tiger maple...Maybe too much with the rest. I think I like cherry best if it will, indeed, look like a darker version of the birch color and not clash instead. For second place, while I like the idea of the maple with the birch, I think it might not be as great with the Golden Beaches, so I'd probably choose walnut....See Morehelp with paint color, pics included
Comments (8)Thank you for all the suggestions. Dawnp-yes please post your pics I would love to see. After seeing the olive branch I went to BM to look at swatch, then I found 'Camouflage", it's a little lighter than Olive branch. I bought it and DH and FIL painted it, I love it. When all is done I will post pics. I think I am going to recover chairs in a black and white toile......cant wait! I don't know what Im going to do with a whole gallon of red I previously bought, but I'll figure it out. I already have the can of muslin for kitchen, I think it ties in well with the dining room paint. Again thanks for all the wonderful suggestions!...See MoreNew Here-- Need Paint Help! (pic included)
Comments (12)Quartersawn oak cabinets? Yummm! That is a rare treasure and you should play it up for all it's worth. It isn't a matter of what color will go with your cabinets, but rather, what color will best enhance the beauty of the wood. When you find the right tone, it will make your cabinets come alive with warmth. Blue will bring out your oak's orange tones, which I don't think you want. Blue and orange together can say "cheap" (meaning inexpensive). That's why Taco Time uses it. Yellow brings out the wood's orange and yellow tones and emphasizes an overall warmth, but often it can fail to enhance the wood. A medium green can be very complimentary to oak. Try greyed or olive tones if you love green. Terra cotta or pale orange draw out the orange tones, but can be so similar your cabs could get lost in the walls. Warm neutrals, such as taupe, mushroom, or khaki highlight the warmth of medium brown woods. I start out looking at brown tones, either light or dark, depending on your preferance. Try Benjamin Moore HC-39 Putnam Ivory. Also, have you looked in the taupes and browns thread in our gallery? When you find the right color, it will make your cabs come alive and sing out in harmony. You'll see. Don't stop until you find that and you'll always be glad you kept looking. Your home is adorable!...See MoreBlue Sapphire Granite w/ Kona Cabinetry? Pics Included
Comments (15)the only time i think a trend might be an issue is if you buy something because it's 'trendy' and you don't really know what you do and don't like... i once bought a pair of mauve wing chairs-not because i liked pink-but because the loveseat i bought on a really great sale had the 'trendy' colors in it of mauve and blue flowers on ivory backround- a very pretty fabric. so, i had navy drapes made and needed 2 wing chairs and the friend i was with suggested a certain fabric---it all looked really nice together. BUT, ordinarily, i WOULD NEVER HAVE BOUGHT PINK CHAIRS!! i learned alot from that experience--about sales and trends!!! there are always 'trends'... and, it's ok to buy 'trendy'- but you should be sure you really like something if it's furniture or tile, etc...paint trends are easier to change!! i put a marble and glass mosaic in our master bath which i really like... yes, someday you might not see as much of it as you currently do, but bottom line is -i like it!! if you love blue, go for it! if you love glass tile, go for it! but, if you're not sure of your taste or if it's important to you to follow the latest color trend, go neutral/white with the tile/granite so that in 3 years you can paint your bathroom coral, pale yellow,or peach or whatever might be most stylish then!...See MoreRockin' Fine Finish
