Comments (11)Thanks for the kind words. I call this bathroom "classic on the cheap." The subway tile is cheap american olean subway tile from lowes, $1.76/sf minus 10% coupon. The liners are the 1/2" x 6" gloss black liners also from lowes, as are the 6x6 tiles. The vine deco tiles are also from lowes. They are a slightly different color white (they are "ice white" instead of "gloss white") but you can't tell really especially with the black liner separating them. The only thing I couldn't get at Lowes was the black chair rail and I special ordered that from my local tile store. It actually cost less per piece than white chair rail from Lowes, so don't assume the big boxes always have the lowest price. It's the same exact American Olean black gloss as you find in the liners at Lowes. You can also special order the liners - for 3x the price, though I do admit that it took several trips to the store over the course of weeks/months to get enough of the liners for my project, but I used a LOT of them. They're like $1.18 a piece or something so using 150 of them is not a huge $$ outlay. The floor is once again cheap cheap cheap, it's white on white daltile octagon and dot from Home Depot, $2.29/sf minus 10% coupon. I made a border using the white and black octagon and dot. Here's a better shot of what that looked like before they covered it up: The paint is Ellen Kennon's Aqua. For more info on Ellen Kennon's paint check out the paint forum here. Her paint is NOT cheap but I used less than a gallon for the whole room so it was worth the splurge. It's gorgeous stuff....See MoreHelp needed! Comments (13)Just fyi, I stood on top of them at installation...and reinforced how precious that tub was...and that I really wanted them to be careful! It was an expensive investment for me and I wanted it installed with kid gloves...so I stood there while they did it. You should too. :-) If I had not been there, the contractor would have had them put the sealant all around the edge of it....thankfully I was there to tell them not to!...See MoreIs $1000 extra charge for installing a free-standing tub normal?
Comments (10)I went with the lower quote in my last house to install a pedestal tub. It had a very slight leak and this guy eventually refunded my money and gave up trying to fix it. He said he thought it was because of slight movement when getting in/out of the tub was the cause. I ended up having it reinstalled by a very large plumbing company and it was 1K, they put some type of concrete like base under it to prevent any movement and they guaranteed the work. If your builder is going to do the work for 1K and guarantee it I would go with it. Less hassle and no issues if any warranty issues later. At the most you would save a few hundred, however you could be giving up a warranty and it would just not be worth it....See MoreHelp me pick a shower head system and freestanding bathtub
Comments (2)Brizo is the more expensive line manufactured by Delta. I think the real difference would be in the styles offered as I found when selecting my shower fixtures that it was style and finish that was the differentiation. Delta makes high quality stuff - think of it as Honda versus Lexus :-) I am in California so shower fixtures are limited in flow. I wouldn't be surprised if brands were making all fixtures California compliant rather than manufacturing separate just for the California market. Do you have room for a free standing tub? They are nice when they are situated in a very large bathroom with room all around so they are freestanding but not very functional (at least to me) when they are set against a wall or walls since one then has to clean around limited spaces....See Morecetb
