Fail for me. As I posted earlier, I looked like this (but not as pretty):

I caved in July, colored my hair and went chin length as well. Last week I got side bangs. Going grey just didn’t work for me (yet).

Absolutely zero regrets about no longer coloring my hair. Recently I was at the salon for a cut, and another stylist walked by and saw my silvery-white streaks in the mirror. She did sort of a double take and came back to the chair, saying, "Is that natural?" My stylist told her that it is, and she said, "Oh my God! She grew her own money piece!" Money piece. I'd never heard light streaks called that before, but apparently it's salon lingo. It made me feel strangely dirty though.

Tina do you use a “purple” shampoo occasionally. It works wonders to keep the highlights from turning gold/brassy looking. Once a week is enough.

I never intended to and have been back a few times.

I do appreciate those that can rock the gray/ white.

Mine is too salt and pepper. Really not the best look for a woman. We will see in a few years.

Tried it but it wasn't working for me. In retrospect, it was probably more that it needed a cut so it looked witchy. I should have had the cut first to see how the grey looked with my actual hairstyle vs my covid pony tail. The streaks of grey are all in the temple area and with my hair pulled back.....not a good look. You couldn't see it will with the hair down, but my hair got too long to wear down in our hot weather. So, I caved and had it colored when I got it cut about 3 weeks ago. Not sorry.

Excellent for me. My last hair color was January. After that I had the brown foiled out so I was suddenly blonde. Now it's almost all my natural color with just a little yellow left on the ends. The gold/yellow/brassy problem is one of the reasons I decided to quit coloring. I'm out in the sun a lot in the summer and I thought I'd probably like gray hair better than yellow hair which is definitely the case. Purple shampoo can only do so much.

I love my natural color which is more of a platinum blonde vs. silver gray. I didn't realize that even if you are all gray there are different tones of gray and not all are silvery. Mine is completely gray on top in the front and darker in the back. I'll be interested to see how this all looks in the winter when I'm pasty white and not tan, especially when I don't wear even light makeup now due to the mask.

In my opinion you need a really good haircut to look your best in gray hair, at least that is the case for me and what I observed when I saw gray hair I thought looked good before I made the decision. The other observation I made was that strikingly beautiful older women also look good with gray hair pulled back in a pony. That is not the case for me - strikingly beautiful and able to pull off a long gray pony.

I wasn't happy with how it was looking, but also did not want to to go back to permanent color. I read that semi permanent color can be a good temporary solution and fades rather than grows out with the demarcation line. So I tried Clairol Natural Instincts in Dark Blonde (I was having it colored a warm medium brown prior) and love the results. They grey hair shows up as warm highlights now, and there is never a skunk streak down the middle. Also no ammonia or peroxide. If I decide to try the grey again I can just let this start to fade out. This picture doesn't really show the highlights well, but I am very happy with this solution!

Excellent for me too 3Katz! I know that all hair colors do not turn a pretty grey. My natural hair is very dark brown and it's turning a pretty color. Yes, I've used a blue shampoo right from the beginning. I also have a grey colored conditioner that I love. I use neither every time I shampoo, just once or twice a week. I'm also considering letting my hair grow just a tad longer - mainly the back. My hair is medium short with long layers so it doesn't look as short as it is. The back is tapered up from the nape though so that part I'm thinking of growing out some and going with a short bob or lob. Layered as layers are a must with my thick, wavy hair. My husband is loving my new color and it's funny, I have had more male attention lately! I tell my husband it has got to be the hair!! LOL

Nope. Never even thought about going "natural." I don't think that my hair color would look as great as some of yours do.

I have been touching up my roots at home. Found Revlon Root Erase at Big Lots for $4 and bought several boxes after trying it out.

I love that it dispenses the perfect ratio of color and developer, and I can use as little as I need and save the rest. I've also been using it on my brows instead of the Just for Men Beard and Mustache color that I had been using.

There was a window when I could have gone gray after no salon appointments In March and April, but I just could not do it, My hair is a beautiful silver in the front but underneath it is still quite a dark brown. The combination of those two colors looks dirty, IMO, even worse than the yellowish gray I see on some women. Also, I have a friend who is almost ten years younger than me who had auburn hair in a short, cute bob and decided a year ago to go natural. The growing out process was painful looking. Her final color is a dingy, yellowish gray and to make matters worse she left her hair long, parted in the middle. The color does not complement her skin tone, which is “redhead pale.” She looks like a tired old witch, much older than her 55 years. Unfortunately her husband has gorgeous silver hair and looks like he was born for it. I told DH thirty-five years ago —when he started losing his hair and I started coloring mine— that if ever anyone looked at us and thought why on earth did (that one) marry (that one)??? I wanted them to be asking why I married him :-) Someone in this outfit needed a decent head of hair and I was determined it would be ME.

Fair. I have the calico cat look like jojo. I had a few lowlights done about a month ago and that helped. Occasionally I look washed out around my face so I'll make my own low lights with dark blonde color wow powder and that helps quite a bit.

It definitely doesn't look good but I think it looks like I'm trying which is all I can hope for at this point.

I stopped coloring my hair when I was 50, and by then it was almost completely white but had enough color left to look platinum blond. It's getting closer to pure white now, but I don't mind it. As a man, it is important (to some) just to have hair. When my brother in Texas saw me with white hair, he tried to tease me about it, but I said, "At least I have hair," since he was bald by then and is five years younger than I am. I think he is jealous that I did not go bald, since I had a 50/50 chance, but I got lucky and he didn't.

Here's my latest "do". I think because my stylist gave it a good deal of "spike", it tends to be a bit fly-away right in front where I don't WANT it to be. Oh well. As you can see, I gave myself a model's face, because ... well, why not.

My hair is now past my shoulders but I still only have a little gray at the temples. Haven't gotten my hair done since end of February. It's super healthy not being colored and heat-styled most days, but it's also super straight. IDK what I will do about the color. I'm not that motivated to do a full all-over color anymore. I'd maybe do highlights. ?? My color is only a little warmer than my own color. Eventually I will have to go to the salon. I've just been pulling it back or up to workout. LOL, put a little extra dot on my forehead.

I'm the same as IdaClaire I let mine go natural several years ago and almost every time I go to for a haircut someone comments on my "money piece" I never heard that term before but it fits.

Did not go well for me. Color helps tame the texture of my hair. Also I still have a couple of brown areas, between the texture and patches it was a no go.

Looking at these great short grey cuts, I'm tempted. However, I'm still shoulder length and doing what my stylist calls a medium ash blonde toner (I think just a semi-permanent colour). It helps to blend the incoming grey with the last of my highlights. If I was convinced mine would look half as good as the ladies here, I'd probably do it.

Fail for me, too, because it doesn't look a fraction as nice as the examples above. My gray isn't so bad--it's the resulting yellowy-don't-know-what-it-is color of the rest of my head. My hair is as long as it's ever been, and I like the length. But the color hasn't grown out well on its own. I need professional help.

I googled money piece and looked at the images. One article I read said it was a trendy new thing for 2020. Where did they come up with that name? Mine is too much all over gray I think for a money piece. I’m going to ask my stylist if she’s heard of that. Might not yet have made it to the Midwest.

My grey is not attractive, I spent four hours today and hubby likes it. I guess that Is who I am doing it for...... told him to trimtne beard

I looked it up, too. When I was in high school that was the popular - center part, lighter section at the very front to frame your face. Of course then there was no such thing as bayalage and we were doing those highlights on our own without benefit of a stylist let alone a colorist so they were rather harsh and often leaned orange for girls with really dark hair. What goes around comes around in a slightly altered form - always. And it does sound rather skanky to me, too.

I've been at this for a little over two years now. It is not a sport for the weak-kneed!

I’m not ready to go gray. I sort of did a nod to future gray a few years ago with some light highlights. I liked it at first but it always seems to turn brassy after awhile regardless of the shampoo I used. I also don’t like the expense or sitting in the salon for hours. Right now I’m DIYing with Clairol medium brown which is slightly lighter than my normal shade. I’m actually looking not great, my hair is just hanging straight past my shoulders with a side bang. It is convenient though as I can pull my hair into a band on top of my head for a swim cap meant for afro’s. That top bit stays dry so none of the usual chlorine damage.

I’m going to need a major overhaul when I start going out in public again.

Oh my. I may or may not have just spit water through my nose KSWL!!! I'm thinking that term is not used around here.

LOL Terrilynn. I colored my hair for years because no stylist could understand that my hair soaks up the color and you CANNOT use color on my hair that is the hair color. I always used light brown on my dark brown hair. Then I did not have shoe polish black hair!! As I got more grays, the grays would be lighter which was almost a highlighted look. Which I liked, because I really think hair needs to be dimensional shades. Had my hair trimmed and my stylist bleached that one piece across the front that was driving me crazy. It is no longer blond/gold/grassy looking. She put a silver toner on my hair which blended everything so nice. I still have a good bit of dark in my hair, so again, it's not just one shade.

Bestyears I love your hair. It looks like you have more dark left in your hair around your face than I do and I want itty bitty baby low lights put in to add back depth. My underneath in back is like that but I'm pretty white everywhere else. And you are just beautiful!

I never heard that term before either - my gray is multicolored and I have a large pure white streak in the front which shows up when I brush long bangs to the side. I love not having to deal with color anymore. It did take somewhat of a grow out and a very short haircut to get rid of most of the other color- which was a med. brown. It grows rather quickly so it wasn't too long a wait.
