dining room and living room different color schemes

We are building an open-concept house. The kitchen and living room are next to one another. I have dark brown leather sofa ad love seat along with two accent chairs that are cream, brown, and gray paisley. My kitchen will be off-white with taj mahal quartzite. I had wanted a sage-colored island. I had planned to connect all colors with an area rug that contains gray, cream, and a hint of sage. I cannot find such a rug. Will I have to give up my sage island since everything that blends with gray tends to be blue?

Did you google gream, sage and green rugs ? I did there are many.

You also can get a rug that is greige or cream, a with grey geometric design and use sage as your accent color in throw pillows, a knitted throw, maybe even an ottoman, or shades of sage in solid objets d'art such as a vase in a tint of sage such as celadon.

I don't have pictures, but blue and white always look good together. There are so many beautiful blue-greys. You could have a very sophisticated look with it, using gray/silver/black or cool and beachy with green and blue, or pretty and cosy with pink and green.

I vote for hardwood or engineered wood through the whole space, including the kitchen. Opening the wall would be nice, but I suspect your appliances are arrayed along that wall? I'd paint the wall the same pale color as the living space, and hang a really big mirror on the wall if you can't open it. Then you open the wall visually, and reflect the light from the sliders back into the space. (I know...me and mirrors. They are great manipulators of space, particularly when you commit to making them big!)

@Jennifer K I was treating the charcoal as a neutral, but, now when you said it, it does feel a bit weird having two strong dark colors (navy and charcoal), so I think I will go with the charcoal only. Coral actually doesn't look bad at all! Old brick fireplace was my husbands wish, I like it too, but my problem is that I don't know how to handle it, since I am not at all "red person", and I am really bad in decorating with red. Kitchen is 90% done, and hopefully would feel similar to those (only with oak flooring, and brick from the back of the fireplace):

If you use round end tables, use a rectangular or square coffee table. Printed drapes in the dining room are fine with solid drapes in the living area. For your chairs, I would stick to green/camel OR red/camel. You can keep your sofa as the one red item in the room and just use touches of red in art or accessories. Or get a cream or green slipcover for the sofa and just work with the green and camel colors.

I favor traditional furnishings too!

I would go with a hand made, hand-knotted Persian carpet every time.

Even if it doesn't have your stated preferred colors, a Persian carpet will fit in every decor, and many of the Persian carpets do have more subtle colorways.

For example Nain, and Isfahan.

Just keep your eyes peeled, and don't be in a rush to buy.

Quality in craftsmanship is most important in a handmade, hand-knotted Persian carpet.

Don't settle for a cheap imitation.

These days the market in Persian carpets has sunk to abysmal lows.

That is great for the American buyer.

There are lots of rugs out there to suit your color scheme, but wondering if the paisley chairs wiil be the issue. I’d work with them foremost and the island color can be tweaked a bit. Paint color is easier than a rug.
