Can I have a green living room AND dining room?
Comments (11)I'm a little confused. Is the first color you show in the LR, the one labeled 'before', is it the Olive Branch? It looks more blue green on my monitor. And the dining room is red right now? I don't think there's a thing wrong with having the two rooms that are connected by a single wall being the same color. And here's how I would play it out......If I'm not loving my DR anyway.......and want to change the color...........and already have the green paint..........then, all I've got to lose is a little time. Paint on into the DR, see how you like it after you live with it for a couple of weeks, then, if it's too much green, you can always go find something else. I do think getting rid of the sheers probably helps to de-formalize your LR. I finally went with plain jane chenille drapes a couple of shades darker than my wall to achieve some more comfortable feelings in my LR. I had fancy London shades in a yellow/blue toile on pale butter walls before. This is much more in tune with how we live. Your dining room set and antiques are very pretty, Cathrugg! Red Here is a link that might be useful: Wall color is BM Baby Turtle, and it doesn't look that golden in real life, more muted olive...See Moreneed help with my dining room color/ceiling color in living room
Comments (1)Are you saying light comes from the north until late in the day, or are you saying there is a window facing north and a window facing west.? The reason I ask is that light that enters from a north-facing window is bluer and lacks intensity. Subtle color is washed out to gray. The Inchyra Blue is very dark, looking more charcoal with a green tone to me. I would choose the Cooks Blue. Here is a comparison I put together of those two colors with some blues from your rug. While the actual colors may be off due to how color can vary from monitor to monitor Cooks Blue is brighter and won't fade as much in northern light. Also, having a brighter blue on the walls should bring out the blue in your rug. The only way to know how it looks in your room is to buy a sample and paint a board as you did for other colors. Keep in mind that the color temperature of light bulbs you use will also affect the colors of your walls and furnishings. Color Temperature is expressed as Kelvin but is not a measure of heat. Warm-white bulbs have a color temp of 2700K which is kind to skin tones but gives a yellow light. Daylight bulbs have color temperature of 5000K to 6500K, but are harsh to skin tones and emit a blue-white light. Both CFL and LED bulbs come in various color temperatures. I recommend you choose bulbs with color temperature between 3500K and 4500K for a more neutral result. HERE is a photo of how different K-value lighting affects the appearance of color. You might have to visit a lighting store or light bulb specialty store to find neutral white bulbs. As to ceiling colors, people seldom look up. Unless your light fixtures are dramatic or the ceiling color is distinct I doubt anyone will notice if two adjacent rooms have different ceiling colors as long as there is a Framed Passageway between them....See MoreChoosing Color Scheme and Layout for Small Living Room
Comments (1)I would not do asectional since you will only have one place to put it a sofa nad 2 chairs are a much better choice for seating and a chaise is a useless piece when entertaining because no one wants to sit there. Get an ottoman it act as an extra seat in a pinch . You might even be able to do 2 sofas and 2 smaller scaled chairs on either side of the sliding doors....See Morere-thinking living room and work space lighting....
Comments (17)Hey Beverly.....From Desk area which is correct, the wall that has the DESK and SOFA has no windows, from the chair that's tucked into the corner...the next items is an electric fireplace, then beside it, is a upright accoustic piano, (spinet is a harpsichord, and I don't think these are made anymore)...I digress. The "current" tv size is a 42" (real width = 37"), this will change to a 60" TV (real width = 54") the wall that has the TV now is 84" Wide......where you have marked entrance, is the entrance, and the door where you marked is deck..is the balcony....i'm 8 floors up, facing SOUTH , Fully sunlight ALL day long, floods into the place, but I usually keep blinds closed in summer, because otherwise it just gets to HOT, even with 2 a/c's going on, we can soar up to 110F, and that's with 90 - 95% humidity (hint, walk outside, clothes stick to you in 10 minutes). Total width of room from Entrance (right) to Balcony (left) is 18 feet 9 inches. From the entrance door wall to the entrance of kitchen is (5foot 4inches) 64inches, from the kitchen exit to the window wall (dining area) across that is 7 feet (83 inches), from the TV wall to the SOFA wall, is 12 feet 2 inches. I had thought about making the sofa FLOAT in the middle, but then it cuts up the space, and it only provides 5 feet of walk around on 1 side, and then the 2 chairs are left in kinda limbo. Thanks again! Ohhh and the white rectange beside entrance door is a little bench put your shoes on :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
