I think I hate my new dining room chairs ...
Comments (43)Change the chair seats, the LIGHT add curtains, Add a rug.......It isn't decorated yet!! Do the table switch last........ The light is Hubbardton Forge, The rug is an 8 x 10 charcoal sisal , 225.00 There's a lot of junk in tables, with finishes that will not hold up. .............switch the table last. Or paint what you have, to a soft black top, and white base. This is a minefield category of junkola out there. Arhaus on the one below........save your money : ) https://www.denverfabrics.com/p242131_66467-greypeachpink-plaid-linen https://www.lightology.com/index.php?module=prod_detail&prod_id=207623...See Morere-thinking living room and work space lighting....
Comments (17)Hey Beverly.....From Desk area which is correct, the wall that has the DESK and SOFA has no windows, from the chair that's tucked into the corner...the next items is an electric fireplace, then beside it, is a upright accoustic piano, (spinet is a harpsichord, and I don't think these are made anymore)...I digress. The "current" tv size is a 42" (real width = 37"), this will change to a 60" TV (real width = 54") the wall that has the TV now is 84" Wide......where you have marked entrance, is the entrance, and the door where you marked is deck..is the balcony....i'm 8 floors up, facing SOUTH , Fully sunlight ALL day long, floods into the place, but I usually keep blinds closed in summer, because otherwise it just gets to HOT, even with 2 a/c's going on, we can soar up to 110F, and that's with 90 - 95% humidity (hint, walk outside, clothes stick to you in 10 minutes). Total width of room from Entrance (right) to Balcony (left) is 18 feet 9 inches. From the entrance door wall to the entrance of kitchen is (5foot 4inches) 64inches, from the kitchen exit to the window wall (dining area) across that is 7 feet (83 inches), from the TV wall to the SOFA wall, is 12 feet 2 inches. I had thought about making the sofa FLOAT in the middle, but then it cuts up the space, and it only provides 5 feet of walk around on 1 side, and then the 2 chairs are left in kinda limbo. Thanks again! Ohhh and the white rectange beside entrance door is a little bench put your shoes on :)...See MoreI think I hate this room color. Should I hate this room color?
Comments (51)Yes- unfortunately the existing piece is actually probably a vanity masquerading as a desk (also a Facebook market find). It is not very ergonomic at all- it sort of traps your thighs in that upside down U thing and thus my husband won’t use it. I thought he’d eventually cave, but 2+ months of passive aggressively moving his paperwork and iPad off of our dining room table and onto our “desk” isn’t working. I’ve got to either replace it or find a 5 foot centerpiece for our diningroom....See MoreHELP PLEASE too much green in dining room not working with living room
Comments (6)It's the scale of the lamps that you need to concentrate on the most. I've found that most homeowners tend to purchase lamps that are too short/small. I use 28"-30" as my guide. I rarely use shorter than 28" unless maybe in a bedroom or for an occasional table, and over 30" starts to look odd in most homes. If you're looking at a lamp in person, rather than online (which has the measurements) just measure from the top of the shade down to the table. Also, purchasing inexpensive end tables and lamps first can really help change the look of a room, while you're saving up for the more expensive items (sofa, nice coffee table). Here's a before/after of a living room I did for a homeowner, where all I added were lamps, end tables and throw pillows (just reworked her other items). The end tables I used are really great, they work with a lot of furniture styles, plus they have a shelf and they're less than $100. I use them with a lot of clients! Since end tables don't get a lot of abuse, a "cheaper" one is a real budget saver. Great End Table As you can see in the Before, this furniture is large and overstuffed. A too small lamp would look silly. Using the above linked end tables and 30" lamps: You can use an end table like those (they're 24" high) and the proper size lamp, and it will work with just about any sofa you choose. Also, when choosing throw cushions I would get rid of the two red cushions on your sofa, and replace with a neutral. Maybe throw in a lumbar on one of your two chairs. And here's a room (while we were rearranging furniture) where the homeowner's furniture was not oversized/overstuffed. As you can see, these same end tables come up higher on her sofa, but still work. I can't remember how tall these lamps were, probably around 27"-28"....See MoreItza Gonzalez
