Dishwasher KA vs Bosh
Comments (36)I've owned KA dishwashers for 35 years (2 of them in that time period) I would have sworn by them as far as cleaning the dishes and reliability. I did have problems with their racks rusting after 4 or 5 years. We recently moved into a home with a KA drawer dishwasher which I hated. I could not fit half of what I fit in my previous DW when using both drawers. It also did not wash well at all! The control panel was on the blink and we just replaced it with the Bosch 800 series. I love this dishwasher and it's 3rd rack which I use for cooking utensils. I still prefer the utensil basket in the bottom. We've never used the drying element in the KA so we don't miss that feature. I like the adjustablity of the middle rack and lowered it on one side to fit extra tall glasses. I find that I don't have to be as careful loading this dishwasher as past ones because I never run out of room. The only feature I dislike are the closely spaced tines next to the silverware basket, but I've adapted to it. I love, love LOVE this DW!...See MoreWhat is the craziest thing you have washed in a dishwasher or washer?
Comments (40)Sorry a1an, I bow my head in shame. Really I am sorry that you had a flood, that is never fun. But the real question is how were the racks. LOL. ci_lantro love the idea of washing potatoes in the DW. I never have to make enough potatoes to try that, but am tempted to try. doreycrouse sorry you had such a mess. I will take your experience as a warning and be careful what I wash together. Errant_gw what kind of vacuum filters? Do you mean the sponge things or the plastic containers? sandy1616 washing footwear is a great idea, especially size 14. Thanks all I'm currently in special cleaning mode as a bathroom sink has had a nasty slow leak that wasn't discovered till I smelled mildew. So as the old vanity was ripped apart and strange plumbing issues are being sorted I am on full sanitizing mode. I plan on washing some of the pipes in the DW as they sit there and wait to be reattached, also the soap dish, decorative vase etc.. I will make another posting soon asking for assistance in grout cleaning. I know not laundry but related as I might try Oxi....See MoreBosh 18" custom panel dishwasher
Comments (13)I ordered this same dishwasher (Bosch 800 Series – Panel Ready SPV68U53UC). I'm really worried that I will run into the same issues. According to reviews I've read, the d/w is 2 inches shorter because it was designed to be ADA compliant. I have a 30x18 shaker door and I can't cut this down. How did you guys end up resolving this? Were you able to find a fix and make it completely seamless and built-in to match your cabinets? Were you able to install a custom toe kick to match your kitchen? I've read that someone put a 30x18 door and offset it so it protrudes by 1 inch on top and 1 inch on bottom. I would love to hear from you guys especially Jakvis and watzurhury! Thanks in advance!...See MoreMiele dishwasher drain hose problem?
Comments (11)ILoveRed, one of the strange things is that Miele does have repair staff in my city, and they have installers on contract. Coordination and oversight of their services seem to be what is missing in my ongoing (and frustrating!) experience. It is a shame because I do like the dishwasher itself. gspark, I think the black hose may have been from the previous dishwasher and the Miele installers reused it instead of changing it? Or the installers took a short cut and used the black hose for some reason? I really don’t know. If I had had any idea that what should have been a routine task would turn out to be an ordeal I would have taken “before” pictures. I sure hope that the pipe doesn’t have to be replaced because I just had the plumber replace the piping. Miele repair said there was a crack at the drainage connection meaning I had to get a plumber to replace the piping before I could use the dishwasher again. How and when this crack happened I don’t know (during the installation? the blockage repair when the hose was disconnected from the pipe? other?). It seems to me that when we pay for the expensive Miele product and installation service they should ensure that the appropriate fittings and hoses are supplied and properly installed so that the machine functions properly. And consumers should be advised of any special additional requirements in advance. The cost of the Miele installation service was considerably more than the going rate. I do not understand why a longer right-sized hose was not supplied and looped in a better location, as they are supposed to be the “experts”. At minimum the installers should have pointed out these deficiencies so steps could be taken to rectify them before problems developed as a result. I was nearby the whole time during the installation and they said all was fine. I am continuing to pursue Miele about the hose/installation problem.... I don’t want to deal with another expensive, time-wasting avoidable blockage. Thank you all for your insights and support, and letting me vent....See Moreachenier
