When our DD was talking about going to medical school, my DH told her she should be a dentist, they make $$$! She said she didn't like to hurt people. We asked her about giving shots as a doctor, her response, "oh, my nurse will give the shots!"

Kathy, stay ahead of the pain. We have a dentist in our family. She always tells me to take meds before pain really starts. I didn’t one night, wow,worst night of my life.

Thanks all. My next pain med will be at 1am. Will probably stay up until time to take it. Feeling much better. DH made some Mrs. Grasses soup for us. That was easy to get down. Plan on taking pain meds until tomorrow, then will take if I feel I need them, instead of a schedule.

I hope you heal quickly. Dang, 500 bucks to Take a tooth, not to save it. Don't drink out of a straw. Or smoke. You don't ever want to get dry socket.

I've had a few teeth pulled (had too many to start with) and never needed anything beyond a few advil, even for impacted wisdom teeth.

Depends, Raye. The last wisdom tooth that I had pulled (years ago) was the kind of pain that you don't forget. The (inept) dentist said the root was curled/ curved. Came out in pieces. And he didn't get it all out. Months later, a sliver of tooth or bone worked its way out of my gum.

The price tag for pulling a molar is around $1,000 over here. I just had one done earlier this year and then had an implant for $4,000. It was very painful for two days, I won't do another implant in the future.

My wisdom teeth required that part of my jaw was broken open to get to the impacted teeth. Woke up the next morning with a mouth full of bone marrow. Still wasn't painful enough to need anything more than an advil.

That sounds very painful Raye!! Your tooth fairy $ should be at $1,000 per wisdom tooth!

Raye, I probably would have been better off if the dentist had broken my jaw! But probably not the dentist I had back then.

Summer, I had a molar pulled and implant placed earlier this year but the pain was minimal. NSAIDs that day and part of the next was all I needed. I was surprised because I was thinking it would be worse. The procedure of placing the implant was a little intense--about the time that I started thinking 'when will this be over', it was done. In real time, it wasn't very long--maybe 15-20 minutes.

Also have had sinus graft surgery and the pain wasn't all that bad (but the procedure was long, probably 1.5 hours). Just NSAIDS for that, too. I'll be getting implants where the graft was done so I sure hope it isn't as bad as your experience, Summersrhythm.

It wasn't that painful. It wasn't a fracture thought the height of the jaw it's a fracture where they force the sides of the bone that surround the tooth apart. I think my first wisdom tooth extraction was around $100 but that was a long time ago.

Ci, I suppose to have another implant with a sinus graft surgery, I chickened out. No more implant for me. :-) I am glad yours wasn’t painful.

Yes, I'm doing well. Did take a pain pill at 6 tonight. Made Potato soup yesterday, so soup and sandwiches for 2 days. Tomorrow meat loaf. Trying to keep to soft foods for a few more days. Can't wait until the stitches melt away. Hard to sleep on my left side, the side that the tooth came out.

But I must be doing pretty good, I made a mask today from a Crown Royal bag! It was a special request.

Yay! Glad you are OK. When I had a tooth removed and bone graft done in May for an implant later, my stitches weren't dissolving and had to be removed. I became very tired of string in my mouth, each stitch seemed to have an unreasonably long 'tail'.

Cute Mask! It reminded me that when my brothers little girl was born, his MIL flew up to stay and help them for a while. She's a ball of efficient energy. Among other things, caught up all the laundry and even his fishing shirts were pressed. She washed all the Crown Royal bags he'd saved too, hung, then ironed them. His MIL and FIL didn't drink.

Glad to see you posting. With dental surgery, I always seem to get better when stitches are gone.

Stitches still in. But each day it feels better, just a bit of swelling still.

I was eating a KIND bar last night and broke off part of a tooth so I'll be visiting the dentist sooner rather than later. It doesn't hurt or bother me at all.
