Sheesh! Am I the only one who's so far behind?
Comments (27)Well. I'm saying this with the utmost respect and kindness, but: y'all have nothing on me! I just came inside from planting my last 80 bulbs. It was fun, actually (although my feet are now very cold). The ground here is frozen about an inch down. So I levered up frozen slabs with a shovel, added amendments to the cool but unfrozen soil underneath, plunked in the bulbs. I replaced the frozen crust, then jumped up and down on it a few times to settle everything. Easy--and I'm sure all of my non-gardening, home-on-vacation neighbors found it highly entertaining. Tomorrow, I have to finish my "fall" cleanup. I left the hose out--thankfully, I had the sense to disconnect and empty it--and the garden is strewn with a variety of pots, some planted and some not, all of which have to go...somewhere. Then there are a few things left to plant: a peony division, a few day lily divisions, and so on. It's not my fault! :) I suffer from the delusion that I live in northern England, and I learned a lot about gardening from a former neighbor in Cambridge (MA, not England). This lovely, intrepid/crazy lady routinely planted bulbs in late December and had a collection of vines growing up supports she's super-glued to the apartment building next to hers. She planted her bulbs in the "verge" (area between sidewalk and street), which was prime dog-walking territory in that neighborhood. No matter, she had a grade-school-age relative draw graphic pictures to illustrate a number of "This is Not a Dog Toilet!" signs. Anyway, her garden thrived, and mine does, too. I like to push a few limits in it. So you can all relax, and feel very organized and on-schedule. Comments (81)I bought a Toto Eco Flush CST784EF for our master bathroom and it is terrible. You need to have a toilet brush scrubber by you each time you use the bathroom because there is not enough water or pressure to clean the toilet. And, it was $600. The biggest waste of money I ever spent. Go with American Standard. We bought one of those for our powder room and it is amazing for 2/3 rds of the cost....See MoreCrying over furniture?! Am I the only one?
Comments (16)Thank you all so much for your input and thoughts - each one validates my mixed up feelings. natal and mrsmarv I've been 'planning' a sale for a long time and each summer the time has slipped away, it didn't get done, another year passes. It's time to let go of the surplus but there are a few items that will hang back at least for now. This is feeling like my 2nd go round with a mid life crisis! Isn't one enough, LOL?? There may still be a cottage in my future - who knows? - but it won't be with my young boys, creating a place they'll want to return to someday with their kids. That's not a new loss, though since my youngest is now 21. oakley I've had those "dang - shouldn't have sold that!" regrets before! I've sold things at previous garage sales that would be the perfect little table in *that* corner..... but I hunt and find something else so the regrets don't last long. cyn *technically* I still have room, too, but this is a psychological crowding that needs breathing room. I like the photograph idea, too. I can have a folder on my computer labeled Furniture and Stuff I Have Loved!!! mitchdesi and Jan you hit the nail on the head - I need to let go and make room for whatever is waiting in the wings. *Stuff* has been holding me back. And it's fun to price things well, watch people get something they love and walk away happy. Onward - 8 days and counting!...See Morewhy can't i choose a color - am i the only one??
Comments (15)Check the colors against your furniture and such. If you are starting with the walls first then I suggest you do like I did. After painting my 25"walls by myself, yeah really scary up there, I did the following: We purchased a rug that had all our favorite colors and put it in our family room as the anchor. I went to store and picked one of those pallet cards that gives a group of colors that go together. Mine are the Biltmore Estate colors. All my favorites are there with even a few I would never have thought of. And it turns out all the colors in the pallet are actually in the rug we got. It took a few months before we realized that there were colonial blue areas in the rug that actually matched the blue we used in one room. I used the neutral tan for my entry and stairwell, used a lighter version of the tan for my kitchen, family and hallways. I used the red in my livingroom, hunter green in dining and the blue in my upstairs bonus room. I just did my guest bath using the same blue in the rug andthe bonus room and it is actually my unexpected color in the house. It matches all the other colors but you would never really think to see it. But together they all match really well. I carry my colors in my purse and use them all the time when I am out and about and tempted to get something for the house. So pick that tan and find a pallet that goes with it, it really helped me a lot....See Morecarolb_w_fl_coastal_9b
