Hi bac, Nice to see you over here, too. ;) At first I thought primitive church, but lean more toward perhaps train or bus depot, from back in the day? Not Grand Central, but perhaps a smaller, off the beaten path stop? Against a wall? Just thinking out loud. ;) I have a routine I use for cleanup without stripping, probably wouldn't hurt it. Others have theirs. Here is an older post listing some methods. (It got a little heated, but it's the only one I can find with specifics, so you just have to wade through to the good stuff you need. ;) Were it me, I'd probably clean with Formby's cleaner, gets rid of prior oils and gunks, put a coat of Restore a Finish on for some pep and then beeswax. If the finish is good and doesn't need spots of TLC, I'd skip the RAF step and go straight for the beeswax or paste wax. (All mentioned in above link.)

Maybe you can do an edge on a flower pot. Canister top. Do you have a tile saw so you can cut it neatly into squares. I am assuming you mean just the border tiles? If you did a straight sided canister you could to the top edge in the border tile. Looks like you only have about 20 inches unless you have some left over tucked away some where. I can see the rest filled in with nipped dishes in yellows and the colors you have in that border.Just need to be sure they are all the same thickness. I also like the straight edging then random cuts as fill in.

Why not buy three wood long shutters or doors from the home store, ones without ornamentation and have mirrors cut to fit? Then you can do whatever finish works best for you, after adding trim moulding around the edges of the mirror pieces,hinge them together, and you have a one-of-a-kind mirror. I am guessing there are lots of instructions on the internet for making floor screens from doors or shutters.

Thanks for the replies. I went to the library to a different computer (Firefox) to be able to answer. After I came back from Abt yesterday, it occurred to me that they had a lot more of the “professional” style ranges on display than the 30 inch freestanding I need. And that was not even in the designer showrooms. So I think they are going more high-end. I want to keep it under $1500. The repair of my shorted-out 11 year old Maytag Gemini double oven would be ~ $500. $500 was my threshold for just buying new rather than repairing it. The current model Maytag Gemini is $1500. So that’s how I arrived at that figure. (Reviews I read said that Maytag is no longer a reliable brand, so I have eliminated it from the running). My husband thinks $1500 is more than enough, so I can’t go higher. Other brands of double ovens with a few less features start at $1200. I went to Home Depot today; they had the exact same models I saw at Abt. Nothing new. The prices were also the same. I’d forgotten about Best Buy. Thanks, lascatx, I’ll check that one out. There is a good appliance store about 20 miles away, where I went to buy my Speed Queen washer. I can stop at a Best Buy and a Lowe’s on my way there. The black stainless, from what I can see, looks like a dark grey. I think that would go almost as well as black. So if I can just see one, or a piece of it large enough to judge by, that increases my options. The one I like best so far is LG double oven convection. The drawback to that is that the center range top burner is an oval, to accommodate the grill pan. A burner grate AND the griddle pan comes with it. But, all the gas stoves in my range have an oval burner. I will likely not have any use for it. That does come in the black stainless finish, though they will have to order it. Price $ 1300. Another one I like is GE, double oven convection, virtually the same, only for that you have to order a burner grate to replace the griddle it comes with. That one comes in a “Slate” dark grey finish, which looks much like a dark grey metallic automotive paint. Price also $ 1300. I see no advantage to that, as the LG comes with a glide-out rack, which I like. That also has an oval center range top burner. A model a step up has a center burner that can be either an oval or switch to a round. THAT would be useful….but I’d have to pay $400 more for that! Freeoscar, my house came with a double oven. Not like they come now: the smaller oven was in the same position as an over the range microwave. Yet it was a range, all one piece, and not a wall oven. I liked it so much that when I remodeled 11 years ago, I looked for another double oven and bought the Maytag Gemini, which was the only double oven available at that time. It’s true that the bottom ovens in the current models are lower down. I plan to get one with a gliding rack, which is a feature I have now that I use all the time. Except for the rare batch of cookies or scones (my husband no longer eats carbs, and our kids have griown, so I'm not as motivated to bake as before), and holiday dinners, we use the top smaller oven almost all the time. Broiling fish, homemade pizza, and just browning something quickly.
