How would you hang these house numbers? Pretend you aren't handy!

I got these really contemporary house numbers that I love the prob is that I want to mount on the columns that are concrete. Not sure we can drill them in and hang as floating which does look really cool. I tried outdoor mounting tape but they r too thin. Any other ideas for hanging? I only have to a 2 and a 4 and was planning to hang them vertically.

Comments (13)Hi--Up here in zone 5 there is plenty of downtime from butterflying. I enjoy the first couple of months of no gardening stuff, and then in January I start to go crazy waiting for spring. Since I'm new to butterflies and especially caterpillars, I spent a lot of time researching cats and butterflies--and then started to order seeds for nectar and host plants. I am dead set on getting buckeye cats and viceroy cats and finding frit cats that must be in my yard. I think just need to start looking for them earlier too--beginning in May. I got the Burriss' book (just so beautiful and wonderful to read--we need more books like this!) and also read a bio of 17th century woman who broke the mold of expectations of what women were supposed to do and decided to leave husband and home and study the life cycle of butterflies at a time when people still believed in spontaneous generation. That's what I've been doing to keep myself occupied in snowy NH. Comments (13)Quinn, I wrote to the owner yesterday..He replied saying he's been having problems with that site. He also asked which products I was interested in ordering. I wish I knew more about Eleanor's VF-11, then make a decision whether or not to buy it. Quinn, like I said, in the 90's I was a dedicated Logees customer. I still have quite a few of their plants. The only problem back then was their shipping prices. 7 plants for 11.00..But shipping costs didn't stop me from ordering either..lol Then, around 1999-2000, I placed an order. What a disappointment! First, they decreased pot sizes from 4" to 2 1/4"..but, worse, while reducing size, they increased prices AND shipping. I order quite a bit, and know what shipping costs should be. They went overboard. Still, as long as they sent decent plants I figured it was worth it..Then everything went downhill. I placed an order, including a variegated lemon tree..Quinn, the so-called citrus was no larger than 2" and was gone within days..soil was dry from its shipping ride, not wrapped properly. Still 2"!! Besides, it was an ungrafted seedling. They didn't mention that. For the price, I was expecting, at the least, a small but grafted citrus. There were other plants that were dead upon arrival..even ST couldn't save them. The last order included an Acalypha. A DEAD Acalypha. This time I phoned customer service. The woman was very nice, helpful. She must have read over previous orders because she said, 'I certainly will replace your plant, we don't want to lose you as a customer.' And she did..the second Acalypha was gorgeous. Why didn't they send the second plant in the first place? So, after $150+ later, I never again ordered from Logees. There are too many nurseries around that ship big, healthy plants. I admit, some have a tendency to up S&H, but considering prices and sizes of plants, (most 4"ers) it's worth it. I don't want to down Logees..Perhaps they're sending larger plants and packing securely..It's been years since my last order, so I can't say. As long as consumers are satisfied with their purchases, that's all that matters. Then again, two people on the Fragrant forum who recently ordered from Logees complained their plants were loaded with insects. Quinn, I'm not going to say I've never killed a plant, but if I receive a new plant that's dead or half-dead, I can't take the blame. Toni PS. Comments (21)Fortunately last sat's weather was great since a neighbor threw a pig roast with a wonderful bluegrass band. I enjoyed inspecting her new garden esp the whimsies and the birds visiting her feeders. We took our feeders in April 1 due to bears. I weeded in the morning because the pigweed in one veggie patch is way ahead of me. Sunday was drizzly so I wrapped my head in a scarf, turned the compost and weeded some more. Plants from swap at Annie's are still alive but not planted. (was away for a week) We're headed to Maine and Camden's House and Garden tour on July 16. Discussed with DH cleaning out a shady spot next to a tiny brook. Stood on location of future porch. Ogled newly cleared spot on north side of rickety old barn. DH had cleaned out years of debris and weeds. Good thick stand of ferns along the barn but plenty of room for other things. Need to research. Have to weed new area between garage and barn, part shade garden. DH built steps down steep slope and top half is terraced with stone, planted ... and needs weeding. Yellow climbing nasturtiums are beginning to think about climbing part of an old apple picking ladder tacked to the barn. DH did not know value of antique ladder before he cut it in half. Top half is in a sunnier location next to the door waiting for scarlet runner bean to climb. Almost there. White and pink impatiens in old wash tub next to granite step and rhody beginning to look good. A terra cotta planter needs to be planted. An assortment of potted plants, mostly scented geraniums are still by the kitchen porch so DH could water them (ha!) while I was away. Plucked 3 stems of variegated ivy to put in small green bottles in kitchen window over the sink. Put tomato cages on and swore that next year I would put them on SOONER. Harvested some lettuce, sugar snap peas and giant mustard. DH did not care for mustard greens stir fry but I thought it was yummy. Nobody cared for last night's yellow split pea and mustard green soup so I'll have it for lunch today and the next day and ... Harvested garlic scapes in mid-June. Made wonderful hummus. Thrilled to see volunteer pot marigolds/calendula blooming in the tomato patch. DH helped me build a bean teepee for yard long beans. Planted beans. Flunked rustic weaving. Next year need longer branches and need to use while still supple. Trying to decide if I should prune the bush planted last summer. It has about 5 branches that around getting much taller than all the others. Admired planter containing flowering lemon thyme and lemon verbena. Made note to self that I need to start taking some pictures. Surveyed holding bed from 2007 frantic move. Trying to keep a good record of what's in bloom, what color, when for future landscaping around future porch. Picked mint for spiced zucchini couscous. Looking forward to having our own zucchini. DIL brought over a gorgeous concrete leaf bird bath she made from a huge rhubarb leaf. Her aunt taught her. It still needs to be water-sealed and needs a place of honor in the garden. I missed her Wed night get together to make more bird baths with squash leaves. Despite the rain, a big huge feeling of contentment fills my chest when I spend a few moments in the garden or just looking from the porch. But time is passing so quickly. Massive renovations to first floor of house are completed. DH is taking care of heavy outdoor work. Comments (28)This has been one of the most helpful threads on clothes that I have ever ever read. I just went through my closet yesterday, because I've been "out of action" and then away for so long, that I'd lost track of what I had. Also, we are now going from cool weather into our hot season, so I was ready to change things over. Well, I thought I was doing well yesterday when I filled a grocery bag with items I simply didn't like anymore. Now, after reading on here, I am going back in there, to pull out the two linen shirts I kept, because they are simply great shirts. I haven't worn either of them for 2 years, but they are classics, and so I thought I'd hang onto them, for that skirt that I might find that might just be perfect with them. Now I realise that there are a lot more "mights" to factor in... They might be out of date, might not fit, might just be a waste of space, might, meanwhile be useful to someone else, might be tired of hanging around for the skirt that I "might" find. They're out of here....gone! And the more posts I read on here the more things are going out. I think too, that as we get older, it's not variety we need, but what suits our shapes and lifestyles and age. When you're glowing with youth and vitality, can any clothing be a "mistake"? I have 3 slim lovely DILs in their 20s, and my son's GF is a beautiful 18 year old. They can throw on a hessian bag or a silk sheath and look stunning. They don't bulge, sag, wobble, spread or fade. I'm learning that it's no longer a matter of liking an item of clothing in the shop. It really has to like me. Sometimes I've thought it would be nice to just find something I like and know it'll look good, rather than having to search and wait to find the "just right" piece. On the other hand, when we're older, we can relax about "trends" and "fads" and get away with just a few good pieces. When I was younger, I remember avoiding stuff that made me look like my mother. Now I am my mother, and it's rather nice to go "classic" at last. I find that I now have clothes that seem to be able to go "anywhere", by just dressing them up or down. Put on black stockings and court shoes and a lace top with that simple black skirt and it's ok for a night wedding. Throw on some sandals and a T-shirt, and I can wear it to a beach party. Not quite that simple, but something like that anyway. We recently had a 92 year old lady visit us, and she looked like a queen. She was wearing the softest pale pink fluffy cashmere sweater with a classic blazer, and a floaty skirt. She looked a million dollars and I decided I wanted that look when I'm an old lady. It was comfortable, and yet so dressy. So I've already planned my old age look (LOL). But I realised when I was studying her outfit, that she could have worn it anywhere, at her age, and fitted right in. She wouldn't need anything else to wear outside the house. 3 years agoYou need masonry drill bits which you can pick up at any hardware store (or borrow from a neighbor). You won’t need any anchors, the standoffs screw into the back of the number and then you fill the hole you drilled with silicone or construction adhesive and press the number in place.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoEDIT: I remembered that wrong. here's what actually happened: the mounting pegs were so crappy, many of them installed crooked and broke when I tried to force them straight (they're brittle. not steel). so I ditched the "floating number" idea. I drilled holes using the template but made sure they were big enough for the "sleeves" that the screws were supposed to go into. once fitted, I mounted them with epoxy.
I did all this on a piece of separate wood because I didn't want to epoxy anything directly to my house.
you said you're not very handy? if you want to make these numbers work for you the correct way, you might want to get a handy friend to help you out. if you're drilling into concrete, you might even want to consider returning these numbers and getting a quality brand. I had to completely "hack" these cheap-o numbers to work.

3 years agoThe numbers are cool but they don’t suit the style of your home. The numbers purpose is primarily for emergency personnel to find your house. Your house sits back pretty far from street. I suggest you place a large bolder with number on it near sidewalk but closer to road. Here are a few examples.

3 years agoactually, the font on the sign you posted isn't that bad, it's the size discrepancy between the upper and lower case I hate. if you requested them do it all in lower case (small caps), that would be so much better:

3 years agoI wouldn't want them on the columns because they are round and concrete. I can see them on the door on the horizontal brace under the handle or vertically on your door side lites under the small window. probably on the handle side too unless it would be more visible from the street on the other side if most traffic comes from 1 direction. black numbers against your white or yellow door would be real noticeable and easier to mount on wood than concrete
