I can't imagine Houzz is anti-mask especially with their offices shut down.

A comfortable washable set of masks are our best protection right now wile shopping. (And distancing, hand washing....)

'Mask' is on the dirty word list? Seems all posts with 'mask' in the title have gone away.

Even removed from hot topics. And kitchen table. So many are looking for a decent fitting mask that do not sew. For grocery shopping and appointments.

Yes, I want to finish reading your good mask thread. Why would anyone need to mess with it. So what if we in the cooking community expand the scope occasionally.

I had some questions and contribution, and, for 3-4 days have had a low grade temp 99.7 to 100.4 F, and aches. Non juicy cough (maybe dust, pollen). I wear a mask (N95 from Auto store or HD) if I go out. I rarely go out. DH does a few errands, wears an N95 fitted. We distance, hand wash, wipe some pkg down.

I don’t see that any “flu” is going around. I cannot imagine how I could have contracted any bug or virus. I guess I’ll see what doc say. Okay. He thinks I should stroll over to a test center.

Petalique do you have a good relationship with a regular doctor? By all means call them if you do!! They can help you if they are on the ball. Mine wasn't particularly helpful back in early spring before tests were available and I had some fever and respiratory symptoms, but hopefully that situation has changed. I feel like any diagnostic test that can narrow down what is wrong with you helps so much in getting over it. I attribute my bout to sinus infection along with bad allergies since my symptoms weren't that closely aligned with covid. But I never had allergies before and can't afford the expensive round of tests to try and figure it out as a preventative for the next time I get a bad exposure to an allergen. I just have to make an educated guess as to what was in the air when I had the worst reaction. On the flip side, we were able to get a free covid test recently after hubs came back from a trip where he did some necessary but uncontrolled socializing. He had no symptoms nor had he come into contact with anyone known to be infected, but went into quarantine for a while anyway. The test helped him return to our little bubble with confidence.

Good to get tested. Sure we see false negatives and positives, but it will assist in your decision to self quarantine or stay away from family members. Especially immune compromised or elderly parents.

I just do not find a 'mask helpful thread' off topic here ever a problem. I have been cooking for months from no-contact, on-line, local farm share (delivered no-contact), a wholesale delivery service that pre-covid only served the best restaurants in NYC. Misfits organic veg with add-ons like chocolate bars and potato chips, 😂

This virus is not going away with complacency and anti-maskers. Even a vaccine eventually will, as all vaccines, is usually 50-65% effective. Depending. It will cut down the spread but 'stacking' (key word), with masking, distancing, etc...will help contain. Stacking will lower your numbers, percentages.

'Stacking' your odds and percentages. Your fabric mask may be 30% effective...stack one. Distancing six feet, add 20%. Distance 15-20 feet add 10% more. Add a filter to your mask and make sure it fits your nose bridge tight, (no glass fogging), add another 'stack' to your protection. Add a face shield to your 'stack'. N95 with a face shield is close to 99% effective. All about the numbers.

Good grief. We can help each other. My Dad is about to turn 92 and Mom 91. She is early stages of Alzheimers. He is stressed and needs us but their state is a covid disaster.

I do sew. I have lots of the correct fabrics. I wasn't feeling great, though, and thought I'd support some of my sewing sisters who might be less secure and bought masks from Etsy. I was able to find shaped and fitted masks, with filter pockets or permanent nonwoven washable filters, including some for big heat/big beard fellows for one of my minions who was suffocating in disposable procedure masks, and worse in his favorite baseball team's logo mask. It takes a while searching through the offers, but if you don't want to sew, there are people out there (at Etsy and other sites) who'll do it for you.

This thread will probably get deleted as it seems just one person from Houzz is a decider of content. I only looked into the politics of content when ann_t was banned. I think the torch was handed over to a different mind-set at some point. Too long ago to remember what is up.

I would hazard a guess it got moved from cooking to other because the thread wasn’t about cooking, it was about other. Since this thread isn’t about cooking either, don’t be surprised if it gets moved as miscatagorized too.

Plllog, my step-son has a full beard (think Duck Dynasty, but in a hipster-ish way). He hasn’t stopped his socializing but he does wear a mask. Can you share the link where can I get a mask that fits a full beard, please?

Pillog, our friends husbands did the covid beards, 😂. pics posted on-line are hilarious. DH has kept the mustache and if feel like I'm cheating, an affair with a stranger. Fun-ish, 😂. Still on the fence about keeping it.

Some of my neighbors are orthodox and very good friends and neighbors. LOL. those beards in a mask. Good sports for trying.

We have sewing machines. Just never set up the system having so many masks sent via work etc. How/why I know that so many do not work for different face shapes or for comfort. Like I have said. There is a variety of comfortable mask for every face shape. A shame to spend the money and not be happy with the fit. Wasted $$ that we don't need right now.

If houzz wants to keep deleting mask posts, shame on you.

@Bbstx, this is the one I got for big head/big beard, but I don't see the "long" option currently. You can see the shape in one of the photos. I got him one regular and one long. His beard goes more bushy, like Santa, than long, and usually doesn't get more than a couple of inches long. The guy in the photo has a long beard. It looks like it would be hot to wear that way, and might be more comfortable if the beard were twisted or braided, biker style.

There are a whole bunch of beard masks out there (https://www.etsy.com/search?q=beard%20mask), including ones that look like beards. :)

Some are just open on the bottom, which isn't sufficient. This one looks good for long beards, but doesn't say how it's constructed, and it doesn't look like it has two layers, let alone three (or two with filter), which is optimal. This is similar and maybe better, has allergy info, is preshrunk (important!) and is two layer. This one is from Great Britain, but has the requisite qualities for a competitive price. I've bought internationally through Etsy a number of times and had good luck. Check the listings. I'm sure you'll find something that will suit.

Ann_t was instrumental in our bread baking. Here on the cooking forum for years. Such a great contributor to the forum.I have never followed 'hot topics' but she was a power-house there. I have always respected her voice.

I can't even guess the details but she was banned as well as others when some other houzz employee took over as the forum police. Still a bit of a mystery who that person is.
